Exquisite. Ethereal. Folklore retelling at its best. If I could give this book 6 stars, I would.

Loved the mythology and the setting in general. It’s just very clear to me that the author has no idea how the military works or like, human nature in general… And for some reason I just couldn’t suspend enough belief to keep reading

I really enjoyed several aspects of this book, and Emily’s writing style is delightful and easy to devour, but this book felt like it was about 100 pages too long.

I ended up enjoying this more than I thought I would, considering the blurb is pretty far off from what the book is actually about.

A good thriller but the subject matter was pretty dark. Still, it held my attention until the end. It was a very fast read.

I really struggled to get into this book initially - the writing came across as stilted and the pace was slower than I expected. Holy cow, am I glad I stuck it out. Through meticulous world building, Islington drew me in and kept me engaged through many twists and turns. This was a creative and suspenseful read, with a hell of a plot twist at the end. I can’t wait for book two to be released!
