It started off a touch generic fantasy but towards the end, I was really enjoying the unique use of magic.
I really could've done without the love triangle though. It felt very trope-y (not necessarily a bad thing, it just didn't add much to that actual plot).
I'm interested to see how the rest of the series plays out.

Such a raw, vulnerable and harrowing read. I admire Jeannette so much for having the courage to share her story.

Was it the worst book I’ve ever read? Absolutely not. Was it painfully boring and hard to get through? Yeah.
If they were going to do a Hunger Games prequel, I would’ve preferred Haymitch’s backstory or the origin of the Games, not Snow being the most narcissistic character I’ve ever read and pretending he isn’t.

If you love twists and turns, you’ll love this. I audibly gasped multiple times.
I read this in a single day so that tells you how invested I was.

My bone to pick is with the writing. It felt clunky and odd. The exposition in the very beginning is a lot of info dumping (way more than typical).

Overall, very interesting story.

I really enjoyed the bones of the story. The characters were really interesting.
I do think some of the plot lines could’ve been cut because we never tie up the threads.
Overall, easy read. I really enjoyed the themes of found family and grief. Super interesting concept. Rocky execution

I definitely guessed part of the plot twist but not all of it.
Incredible book. I really loved it.

This book was really hard as a mother and as someone who has struggled with PPD. That being said, it was excellent. I could’ve done without some of the marriage melodrama and the twist wasn’t as satisfying as I imagine they were going for.
