Look, I also enjoyed Shadowhunters when I was young, so yes I have that nostalgic feeling for them. But this? Even with nostalgia it was so so bad. Everything about it. The relationships, the writing, the pace, just everything. Just no.
I don't even know where to start... right now I just want to reread the whole series because woah I did not realise what every book meant. Zafon crafted a masterpiece of a world where you read the first 3 books, not realising how important they were until you get to the last one. I want to reread everything knowing what I know now. It's insane. My mind is blown.
All I'm going to say is that Carlos Ruiz Zafon is a genius and I thank him for his service, and at the same time he has sent me into a spiral I don't think I will ever recover from - I think I will be rereading these books over and over again, combing through the hundreds of layers of this series until the day I die.

A little bit of middle book syndrome. But oh how Cassandra Clare's writing is a comfort.
The only thing that literally made me skim read was the love triangle bull****. God no.

Picked this up on a whim. I really enjoyed the discussion on sexual fantasies and how it's not villanised or skipped over. I think I want to read more about how our non-sexual & sexual experiences influence our sexual wants. Really enjoyed finally reading mature characters, especially with how they handled conflict with each other and others.
Although I wanna say that it's time that romance authors read up on some up to date sex ed before writing sex scenes. I'm tired of the same myths that were created by men that aren't backed by studies, as well as have been detrimental to victims of SA, being used in spicy books.

Layers, layers, and layers. And the writing was gorgeous. I enjoyed this a lot and now I get to check Liberia off my list!

Such a good duology. I'll pick this up again if I'm ever feeling sad and nostalgic.

This has the whimsical feeling of a middle grade, where everyone heals and finds their paths again, but it is not by any means a middle grade. It is whimsical, difficult yet heartwarming, and covers some pretty intense topics.
