So this book has a SUPER SLOW build up - but it’s worth it! It honestly took me a while to warm up at any of the characters, but I absolutely loved them by the end. The worldbuilding was done so well, and hardly any of it (If at all) was expositional. I really enjoyed the weaving of Arabic words throughout, it really immerses you within this world.
In WHTF we have two protagonists; Zafira, a Demenhune Huntress who can walk straight into the Arz unharmed - a dark forest that looms over her home. And Nasir, the prince of death who I found unlikeable until towards the end. The side characters were also amazing, Altair was basically a comedic genius, and his relationship growth with Nasir is both hilarious and warming.
This book was crafted so well, and I can’t wait for the sequel!

I won’t lie, for the first 80ish pages I HATED this. I was bored and couldn’t connect to any of the characters or engage with the world. The pacing was really jarring and Idk what changed but damn I fell hard and I’m so glad I pushed through!
I really felt for and related to Alex, particularly with her being mixed raced. ‘

OH MY GOSH I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS! By far the best middle-grade i have read.
A Pinch of Magic is about three sisters; Betty, Fliss and Charlie, who, along with the rest of their female relatives, are trapped in their town of Crowstone by an ancient curse. We follow them on their journey as they learn more about the curse, and how to break it.
The stakes were so high in this which i absolutely loved! The writing is incredibly atmospheric and dark at times and honestly just entranced me from beginning to end. The plot kept me on my toes and I devoured this book in two days.
The relationship between the sisters if just beautiful. Each sister is unique in their own way and I adored getting to know them. Really cannot wait to read the second book in the series!

I need more!!!
I adored this book. I feel like I really got to know the characters, and the world they live in is just so gothic and magical and moody.
Also the writing??? I love me some whimsical flowery writing any day! Every sentence was strung together beautifully and I was so entranced throughout reading! It had the perfect amount of mystery, and threatened the characters so many times that I was on edge. I also love that we find things out along with the characters, and we’re not just simply told things!
Also, I never thought I would ever say that I love a demon.

Wow. What an incredible journey. I’ve literally just read the last page and I’m in tears. This story is genius and really makes you think about the world we live in. It challenges the reader to really feel.
This was an amazing, dark and gritty fantasy set in an Asian-inspired world. The author is definitely not afraid of gore, and we are not shielded from the violence in any way (which is something I enjoyed!). The fight scenes were really vivid and intense and it felt like I was actually watching some of the scenes on screen.
The MC, Talyien grew so much throughout the story. She began as a stubborn, but slightly ignorant and naïve queen who paid little attention to the feelings of others. Her main concern is her son, her husband who left five years ago and the warring clans in her kingdom. The side characters in this book were phenomenal, my favourite being Khine. He provided the perfect amount of witty humour and it was heart-warming to see his friendship with Tali develop.
I was also really impressed by the world-building. The food in here was so well described, with elements taken from the real world to make it familiar. When Tali is journeying throughout the kingdom, I could really feel a sense of each of the different places. The book is packed with fast-paced action that had my heart beating rapidly! I also really enjoyed the political aspects. It was interesting to see how people in power viewed themselves and their kingdom compared to the lower class citizens living within.
The author slowly feeds you small bits of information, and I found myself needing to read on because I was so desperate to know what was going to happen next. There are so many plot twists, and the author does a really good job of making you believe something, and then revealing a different truth later on.
Overall, this is one of the best fantasy books I have ever read! Packed with fast-paced action, wholesome and well fleshed out characters and political intrigue, The Wolf of Oren-Yaro kept me on my toes and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the next one!

In City of Ghosts we follow a young girl named Cassidy Blake who had a near death experience and was saved by a ghost, Jacob. Her and Jacob remained connected after the incident, and ever since she has been able to feel and see the presence of ghosts. When Cassidy’s parents begin to film a TV show about the worlds most haunted places, the family and Jacob move to Scotland, where Cassidy ends up facing a darker force than she ever could have imagined.
The characters and atmosphere made this a 5-star read for me. Cassidy was so relatable with her Harry Potter references throughout, and I found her super funny. She was such a good narrator, and I really liked the way she spoke about pictures; how they allow a moment to stay still so it can remain the same as you remembered it. She is definitely a unique person, and although she could cross over into the ghost world, she was still afraid. I also enjoyed Jacob as a character, and the extent of which they cared for each other really came across. He was a humorous character and often jokingly teases Cassidy. Jacob had a warm nature, yet we are still left a little creeped out because he is a ghost.
The atmosphere was so well crafted throughout and though the book has that light-hearted whimsy nature of a middle grade, it still managed to give a super creepy and dark feel. It wasn’t too scary, but parts of this book left me chilled to the bone and I was so worried for our main characters!
