Firstly, thank you so much to @StoriesUntoldPress for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
What a delight The Crowns of Croswald was! We follow Ivy, a kitchen maid tasked with controlling dragon ovens. One day she is thrown out of her castle, and is picked up by a man riding a giant beast who tells her she has a place in a magical school. (As soon as I read magical school I got so f**king excited).
There was some really unique concepts in here which helped to flesh out an entirely new magical school. E.g there are bottles called glanageries that contain part of the creators imagination, which people can go inside and interact with without any consequences. I had a few issues with the logic in certain scenes, e.g Ivy literally misses breakfast and lunch for 2 days straight, but the book states in the beginning that she’s always hungry - just didn’t add up! However it is aimed at children so I could overlook it.
What I loved about this was how charming it was. It was pure magic throughout and was an absolute joy to read. Looking forward to continuing the series!

Frostheart tells the story of Ash who discovers he has a unique ability, one that control the multitude of monsters that are attacking the humans. Most humans, however, are scared of this ability, and agree to cast Ash out into the wilds to fend for himself. Ash takes refuge on the Frostheart, a large sleigh of Pathfinders who travel through the snow sea. On the Frostheart, Ash journey’s through the snow, attempting to learn more about his gift and figuring out a hidden message that was left by his parents.
This book was adorable. It was full of adventure, strong friendships and it read a lot like a manga to be with its action-packed scenes! It was however a little predictable, but I’m not the intended target audience. I also found that the worldbuilding wasn’t as well developed as I would have liked it to be, but the beautiful illustrations really helped me visualise the scenes to make up for the lack of description.
The characters in this book were amazing and each had distinct personalities that you could really feel from their dialogue and their actions. I particularly love Tobu, and his words of wisdom:

Wow. Just wow. This was absolutely masterful. Jay Kristoff definitely knows how to write his characters, and he strings you a tiny thread to hold whilst reading the story of Mia Corvere.
Nevernight is about a girl named Mia who has everything taken from her as a child - her home, her life and her family. From there she vows she will take revenge, but first she must train amongst assassins at the Red Church, and become a blade. But Mia is different from other Acolytes, she holds the shadows close, and they her.
Every time I thought I knew something, I was wrong. I was blown away by the amount of plot twists in here, and some of them seriously broke me. I fell hard for some of these characters (especially Mia & Tric, and lets not forget Mister Kindly). And damn the smutty scenes in here? I’m not usually a fan of romance but all I can say is they were hot. I was really happy that Mia wasn’t heartless. She murders without question or guilt, but she lets her true feelings show from time to time, which made her really likeable for me.
Overall, this experience was incredible. Every word was masterful and I can’t wait to continue.

Dryad was an interesting read in parts, but left me with mixed feelings. We start of in a high fantasy world, which quickly turns to cyberpunk/futuristic, peppered with magical aspects. I thought some of the lines in here held some wonderful messages.

What a wonderful little book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this joyous collection of stories centring the Muslim celebration of Eid.
Being mixed raced, I’m not Muslim myself. However I have so many happy memories of being at my Grandma’s house with as many family members as we could fit, to celebrate Eid and to spend time with each other. There were definitely some stories that stood out to me in this, I’ll have my individual ratings below. But this anthology really encapsulated the essence of family and faith, and felt really special to read.
Something that made me extremely happy was the support from non-Muslim characters. There were characters in here who made sure that their Muslim friends felt understood

Oh the Widdershin’s, how I’m going to miss you! The final book about these sisters was INCREDIBLE. Harrison is a masterful storyteller, and this tale about witches gave me the creeps, almost had to stop listening 😂. I was on edge the entire time.
I love how Harrison incorporated real elements of modern day witchcraft. Being a witch myself, this was nice to see 🥰. The setting of Tick Tock Forest was really interesting, and a nice little addition!
I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters, they hold a dear place in my heart.

Really enjoyed this. I watched the show last year without realising it’s a graphic novel series!
Violent + gory, great concept and story, and the art is stunning.
