challenging reflective

I don’t know that my rating is entirely fair or accurate because I know that this book and I failed to fully understand each other until it was too late. There were many parts of it that I loved and I wish there were more books that took the risk of ultimately not becoming entirely understandable. Literature like life should be a process. I don’t think that many people read these reviews before they read the book but if you do my advice is that nothing is a diversion; everything is the point.

This is a weird little character study of a book set against the backdrop of a mysterious apocalypse. The detail work is fascinating; I have never been so enthralled and comforted by a grocery list. The book is brimming with tiny, true motivations and relatable character details. On the other hand, the big picture never quite comes into focus, and while I understand that this is kind of the point, it leaves the book a little adrift
