It’s an interesting book filled with reflections about life, love, relationships and everything else. I appreciated it, especially because they are letters so it sounds very personal. Quick and interesting read 🥰
Rental Person Who Does Nothing: A Memoir by Shoji Morimoto

2.5

It’s an interesting experience per se, the idea of a do-nothing rental and it has some interesting reflections about money, relationships and work. However, the author (?) really makes no effort to make it more interesting as a book but it wasn’t a complete waste of time. A big problem for me was that I felt like  it lacked connection to the real world often and some commentary seems to completely disregard society, and specially class, as a whole.

This book reminded me of There is no such thing as an easy job minus the plot.

The fact that he didn’t work hard for this and it’s just a publisher’s money grab is also a reason why I’m giving it a low rating. So many authors with great ideas are out there trying to publish while things like this book exists and that is very upsetting.

Even though he states that he is  selfish and he takes a very practical stance on everything, it makes me like this book less, I really don’t share his values and that’s ok.

Not a bad book, it just did not resonate with me at all.
Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

Michelle Zauner takes you on a very emotional journey and I really appreciate it, her depictions of food work like cooking scenes in anime movies, little slices of life that bring you back to earth, this kind of magic.

I’m obsessed with reading non-fiction books read by their authors, did the same with Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died and it brings you really close to the story, feels like a long distance call with a friend talking about everything that happened to them lately, which I really enjoy.

Michelle’s writing is as cozy as all the food she’s depicting and I think she comes off as a very sensitive person, talking about her mother without ever blaming her or even excusing her, she’s just telling you her story, a story about how she feels when she enters an H-mart or how she felt getting married.

I really didn’t expect liking this so much but I think it falls a bit short for me, maybe because it’s a memoir and she can’t really invent a new world or make cats talk. However, I do feel like it’s a great book, she shares her experience, that is not an exclusive one, in a very unique way, through her words.

Visceral, intenso e chocante.

I picked up this book because I was obsessed with Babel and I saw this 1-hour video essay/vlog by The book Leo and I decided I needed to check it out.

The Secret History was kind of surprising to me, I didn’t really know what it was about and I absolutely hated all the characters but I thought it was  worthwhile, it made me curious even though at times I’d be thinking “I know what happens, why are there 200 more pages to go?”.

I believe that the reason why I couldn’t connect with this book is the crazy interest about the classics and how intense they are about that, kinda delulu for me but overall a great read.

My boy Richard was too obsessed with all the other main characters very fruity of him even though he tried to deny it 🤭

Bluets by Maggie Nelson

Did not finish book. Stopped at 55%.
I didn’t like the writing or the format of this? I don’t know, I felt like the flow was confusing rather than a stream of consciousness, the little “bluets” didn’t feel connected enough, I couldn’t really get her or relate to her. To me, it feels drafty, I can see craftsmanship in her words and she sounds super smart but I just didn’t see it in this book. Maybe I’d try other stuff from her and enjoy?
