"She did not like to picture them here. Two little boys, playing games on the unfinished hardwood. A child, a baby. No mother had been good here. No father had been kind. Saffy new abandonment, she knew tragedy, she knew loneliness. She knew violence, from the lifetime she had spent chasing it—she knew how it lingers, how it stained. Violence always left its fingerprint."

Okay so I thought this was horror but apparently the only horror is teenage periods idk.

The characters are desperate but in a way that feels unintended. The art style is overly simple which makes it feel more amateur than a conscious style choice.

go romance but i won't be reading the other volumes.

"I’m not done with it. Max, I could never be done with you. I just… Okay, so… I was ready for you to leave. As in, I was prepared to say good-bye. And then you didn’t fucking leave. But you still wanted to. You still have to. And I get that. While this trip is amazing, that thought is always there. Like I’m second best. To myself. How fucked is that? Here I am, the Chloe with everything… And I still feel jealous that some other me gets you? The fuck is wrong with me? Every time you mention your powers, or her… me… The well opens again and—“

Did not finish book. Stopped at 15%.
Really not in the right mindset for a YA book rn cause why was the mc like "i have to play by their rules to find out what happened and to stay safe!!!" AND got threatened by a camp leader or whatever but still went "my pronouns are he she they" in front of the ENTIRE camp two seconds later omfg

'Every day, every season, every cycle, you'll live in fear, unable to enjoy the taste of food, the sun's warmth, or the night's breeze, because one day I'll come. I'll challenge you to a blood duel, Petty Noble Lekan Onai, and you will die on the end of my father's sword.'

This is simple the best book I have ever read.

An interesting beginning for a series but not as engaging as I wished.

I love Shuzo Oshimi, his "Blood On the Tracks" series has become one of my most favourite manga due to his unique story telling and interesting way of displaying tortured characters.

His art work does a lot. It has a true range of emotions and contributes a lot more to the s ory than it does in works of other authors.

This is why I will definitely continue reading this series. I think that Oshimi will have a lot more in store. I have faith that the characters and story will develop and stir more emotions inside the reader in the following volumes.
