There were a few times where I enjoyed this series, but so often I was just frustrated by it. I loved the first book and loved the world, but the rest of the series was a total let down and ruined it for me.
Spoiler
I feel like this premise had so much potential, but then they dragged the selection out for three books and then ended the main conflict by just killing off the source of the conflict?? The conflict wasn't FIXED... it was just avoided. The king dying felt cheap. And Celeste! She has so much character growth and then it was destroyed by killing her so abruptly. It honestly did her character such injustice.

I would have loved to see the selection last maybe one, two books. And THEN see the conflict with the rebels, see Mer revolutionize and change the country. I wanted to see the politics, but all I saw was a frustrating love triangle.

Mer is human -- all the characters are. I know that. I know they're flawed. I kept trying to remind myself I'd probably act the same way at 17. But GOD it was painful to read. At the end of this book, when Maxon saw her with Aspen, I nearly threw the book across the room.

I'm not sure yet if I'll read the next book. I know it's from Mer's daughter's point of view, but I'm not sure I'm that interested. I wanted more about Mer and her political journey, of her bonding with the other girls. Instead, this book ended with death and no real resolution.

And the queen. THE QUEEN. My god I'm PISSED.

I was not expecting the ending.
My face is sticky with tears as I write this.
fuck.
