Such a fun start to the trilogy! Set in the modern day, we follow Nicole and Kyan as they work together to hunt down a dangerous creature.

I adored our mmc, Kyan, and loved that we got his pov as well as Nicole’s. This was definitely a romantasy, but it didn’t let me down like some have been lately. There was a good mix of plot along with the tension and build up through the whole story.

I found myself wishing things would wrap up a little sooner, as some points felt dragged out. I also wish we had some more world building, but as this is the first in a trilogy, I have high hopes for the second and third book fleshing this world out more.

Tenderly I am Devoured is a lush and atmospheric read that’s reminiscent of The Last Tale of the Flower Bride and A Study in Drowning. The writing was beautiful and served the story so well in the end.

We follow Lark, our main character who is so full of emotion. I had a love hate relationship with Lark, but I ended up really enjoying some of our side characters. Lark was very naive and just didn’t seem to learn her lesson. She repeatedly was burned but kept forgiving people (one of which literally tried to unalive her and her friends like why would she feel sorry for them???) I just overall wish that Lark was more mature but I’m sure other people had no issues with that aspect.

The premise is interesting, and the story started out strong. However, I found that the middle and end dragged a bit and lost the spark that the beginning had. We had flashbacks in the beginning, but those ended midway through the book. Those flashbacks either needed to be spread out more, or they needed to be wrapped up sooner imo. I also wish that they had more of a purpose, as they were never really revisited in the aftermath. The end specifically did not need to be that long. It felt dragged out to meet a certain page count.

My biggest ick is relationships that we follow. There’s a weird dynamic between brother and sister in this one where they don’t mind “sharing” Lark. It was just a big nope for me, and I wanted Lark to just pick one of them and be done with it all.

What the fuck

This has been such a hyped book for the past year or so, and omg, the hype was accurate. I fell in love with this story and with Vis.

An orphan with a mysterious past is suddenly adopted and is sent to an elite academy to train—and to spy. Vis is ordered to become the first in his class and to uncover the mysterious death of his adoptive father’s brother, Caeror, or else he’ll be sent to the sappers.

This story eventually takes place in an academy that gave me Babel vibes. Students competing for professional positions and to be the best in their class. The system was intriguing, as Vis has to work his way up to Class 3, the highest, from Class 7. Along the way we meet amazing characters and we start to see the beginnings of found family as we follow Vis climbing the ranks.

The mystery element kept me to intrigued the entire time, and I kept jumping to figure it out. I was wrong every time btw. The ending was insane!!! I need to flesh this review out more but damn
