This was overall just a really fun read. I lost count of how many times I actually snorted or cackled because they're both a bit ridiculous in the best way.
Devin definitely grated on me a bit at first. He was such a self centered jerk and like I get it. Famous his whole life, lots of money, super hot but like dude get over yourself 🙄. It was really great watching his development the more he was around Alex. She made him want to care about and be good for things other than himself.
Alex was definitely my favorite. She has this whole fake I don't care what everyone thinks because I hate them all attitude going on and Devin clocks her almost immediately. While she's showing him to care he shows her that it's okay to open up 🥹. I do definitely think she forgave him waaaaay too easily for some of the stuff he said though. She held on to a grudge for years but let that stuff just roll right off? 👀.
It really was just a fun book. It was silly, talked about my beloved ao3, and had some pretty fun spice.

Fable for the End of the World by Ava Reid

This truly is a love letter to the dystopian ya of the 2010s. You get the same feelings that you got when reading books like The Hunger Games but with more of the issues we face in the world today. Ava Reid excels at providing a compelling and thought provoking narrative while still giving a story that you don’t want to put down.
In a world, much like our own, where woman are valued for their looks before anything else Melinoë is an assassin. Part human and part machine she is the perfect weapon. She is also, however, extremely beautiful. The assassins, or Angels as they’re called in the book, are forced to undergo elective cosmetic procedures because who would watch the gauntlet and sponsor them if the killers weren’t beautiful?
Enter Inesa. The girl who was nominated to the gauntlet by her mother who just couldn’t stop spending money they didn’t have. She wants to live. She wants to live for herself, for her brother, and because she still believes in love and goodness in the world. You could really tell how strained her relationship was with her family. Her mom obviously didn’t care about her at all and her brother seemed almost indifferent towards her at the beginning. Trauma can cause relationships to change and twist and that’s definitely something that you can see here.
I really loved reading the relationship aspects of this book. Inesa slowly showed Melinoë that there were still people who believed in goodness and helping one another just because you want to and not because you’ll get anything out of it. When Melinoë finally decided that she wanted more? That she deserved more? That was probably my favorite part.

I just had a really hard time getting into this one.
I felt like the plot was super engaging and I could really feel the tension rolling off the pages in certain sections. I really wanted to know what was going to happen and that kept me absolutely hooked.
My problem was mostly with the characters. I just wasn't able to connect with them at all. I pretty much felt no emotion about them specifically.
Overall it was an enjoyable read, just not my particular favorite.

That cliffy was absolutely criminal. While I'm definitely still really engaged with the plot I feel like this one had some issues.
It feels like there was a lot of fluff in this one. It probably could have been cut down by 100 or so pages and not suffered at all for it.
I really like that Reagan and most of the guys are starting to grow back together. Especially Dane. He has so many reasons to hate her and honestly she has multiple reasons to hate him but seeing them form a tentative truce 🥹. Jackson still remains my favorite. We love an obsessed with her mmc. Aiden is absolutely driving me insane and honestly I can't stand him.
Will be waiting not so patiently for book three.

That grovel that is coming is going to be intense 😌.
This was so good. Like couldn't put it down once I started it good. It's almost 3 in the morning and I've already downloaded book two because that ending was cruel and I need to know what happens next ðŸ˜

I had a good time reading this one. Why choose with a hurt/comfort is my jam 😌. I liked the bit of suspenseful edge it had as well and that even though there are seven men, they all had a personality and didn't all blur together.
I did have a couple of issues with it, though. The excessive pet names got just a little annoying after a while. The big one was the fact that while she is 21, they all think that she's 17. So, while technically they aren't doing anything wrong, they think that they're flirting with a minor.
All in all, it was a good time and with a cliffy that criminal I can't wait for book 2.

This might just be better than the first, which is kind of difficult because Shadows of the Crown was in my top five for 2024.
It was one thing after another and really kept you on the edge of your seat the whole time you were reading. You could feel how high the stakes were. We got more in depth world building and more into the magic system as well.
I really loved that Ariella is starting to let Caspian in just a bit more. She's still really closed off from him and continually pushes him away, but there's moments where she lets in him 🥹. Poor Caspian, though. He comes back to her time after time no matter how hard she pushes because he just loves her stabby self.
There were definitely a few what the heck moments and like?? What was that about?? Need to know immediately. I have a few guesses but I want to devour book three to find out if I'm right. Also? There's a recap of book one at the beginning 😌.

I truly don't know why I waited so long to read this 🥹. It was sweet, it was funny, it was spicy. I absolutely LOVE a chronically ill character when they're done well. It definitely made me tear up just a time or two.

I really liked this up until the very end. I absolutely love a book that speaks about abortion and makes it very clear that it's the woman's choice. While that was definitely done here it was very abrupt. It was like one chapter and then onto the next thing. I think something like that would warrant more of an exploration into the feelings and aftermath.
