There is a lot to like about Escaping Expdus! Very unique science fiction world, and a very unique spin of space opera (I guess I can classify this as such?). And a very different but familiar spin on Afrofuturism (I think I can call it that too?). But some of the pacing felt a bit erratic at times, and the ending felt…abrupt? Rushed isn’t the right word. Abrupt feels closer to accurate. I may adjust my rating later, but for now 3.75 feels like a good place.

It felt very comforting to be returned to the world introduced to us in Firekeeper’s Daughter, genuinely one of my all-time favorite books.
Parts of Warrior Girl Unearthed felt a little uneven. Not quite rushed? More almost like omitting unnecessary details, but at times when it felt the details would have been welcomed. It just made some scenes appear abrupt and occasionally disjointed.
That said, I still adored these characters, the mystery, and the heap of information provided to us, especially relating to NAGPRA. As with Firekeeper’s Daughter, this feels like an important and necessary read, and I personally believe is should be required reading in schools.

Large parts of the first half of this book felt predictable and cliche. But most of the second half was comprised of decisions and turns I didn’t see coming. Not a perfect ride, but a good way to end a trilogy.

Middle-grade adventure fantasy that feels like Treasure Planet meets Atlantis: The Lost Empire, with a smidge of Avatar the Last Airbender. A fun read with an interesting world. At times predictable, but never bad, and very appropriate for the grade level it’s intended for.

An exceptional sequel!
There was a subplot that lasted about 2 chapters that I didn’t really see the point of. But that aside, this was really an excellent book. The dark, Norse inspiration is amazingly well done and world feels full and real.

This book, this whole trilogy, was an absolute delight! Loved the characters and the world we were immersed into. It was fun and clever, and paid great homage to the likes to Alexandre Dumas and Jules Verne.
The Last Uncharted Sky really expanded the world in wonderful ways, with new explorations of magic and the world itself. Up until this point, we were largely confined to one city per book, but this was truly a world-spanning story with plenty of adventure and discovery.
The stakes of the story were big, but never felt bloated, thankfully. They were always reasonable and understandable within the world, and reasonably built up from information provided in the first two books. It all made logical sense to get to this point.
Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by the theme and mechanism of exploration when looking at generational trauma. It was not a line I had really expected to explore, but one I really welcomed.
Overall, this is a pretty easy book to recommend! It’s nothing earth-shattering or a masterwork of the genre, but it’s fun and charming and overall very solidly done!
