This book needs to come with massive trigger warnings for anyone who has recovered from drugs and/or eating disorders. Beware as the descriptions of events are incredibly detailed!

A book where nothing happens. This book has accomplished several failings:

• Flat characters that are usually unlikeable and minimally boring.
• A nearly indistinguishable plot from the lack of events.
• Showing not telling. This probably had the biggest impact on the level of boring this book is.
• Cliches to the point where this book can be a case study on popular novel cliches.

I think this book and story had a lot of potential and didn’t even come close to the bar.

I think the book brings up great points to chew over, but there are themes that have me questioning the book throughout. It’s a book steeped wholly in individualism, which might be empowering to some on a surface level. But to disregard our human need for connection and community by not giving a damn about others? Yeesh.

Several times Glennon talked about right vs wrong and how they’re just indoctrination tactics. Yes and no. I could see where she was trying to go with it, but it was so poorly executed that someone could’ve easily walked away with the message that morality is crap and just do what you want with no consequences. Morality demands more context and deeper connections than blanket pseudo-motivational statements.
