I found the book kind of confusing (tbh knowing Pat, that might have been intentional tho). I also think that I went in with very different expectations and that threw me off a bit because in the Kingkiller Chronicles I imagined Bast very differently than how he is in this book.

I will say, the writing is amazing and the author does manage to make you care for these characters. But they were also frustrating and stupid at times. And just like the second book, this one was filled with clichés and tropes that I personally don't like and find annoying. The plot twists were well written and kept the story interested despite the eventual outcome being somewhat obvious. (But the queer rep being more or less erased in the course of this book is really frustrating)

I think from the beginning of the book on it's been obvious how the trilogy will end. There are a lot of clichés and I found that disappointing because I feel like the first book at least had a unique setting while this one was basically standart ya fantasy. But even though I know where the story will eventually end up I'm still enjoying the journey. The writing is good and there are still some unexpected plot twists that keep it interesting.

I loved this book so much. The writing is incredible and I felt extremely close to the characters. The trans and autistic representation was so good and even though this book takes place in an alternate London the experience these characters had were still very accurate and can be translated to the real world at the time.

I really loved the book but the ending made no sense to me.
like, if Kiva knew that her mother was the rebel queen then everything that happend makes no sense at all. and if she didn't know then why was she suddenly so certain in the end. it also kind of invalidates the whole thing about kiva's dad being arrested for nothing basically.
i hope that the next book clears some of that up at least. but i did like the character dynamics and all in all the story was really good.

I was very excited about the trans representation and I think it was done really well.
