I don’t know really know how I feel about this book. It sounded interesting and was an easy enough read but it just didn’t flow. The premise of “Mel will have to kill him” was a bit misleading. The FMC and antagonist felt flat and almost like an after thought to the 2 MMCs who had more well rounded backgrounds. The lore used as a base of a curse and a cure felt a little all over the place. While I love a good HEA the last chapter felt almost unnecessary. I just found myself unsure throughout a lot of it.

I received an advance review copy for free from Book Sirens.

This installment of the duology felt fluffy. It was definitely action packed but a lot of it felt like the purpose was filler. While readers expect characters to go through trials to get to their final destination it just felt like a lot. The story concept was still good but something about the conclusion this book gave just didn't hit the way I had hoped. Throughout both books the beginning of each chapter has some kind of proverb, or lore excerpt, or letter excerpt. I know they are there for a purpose but I just got annoyed by them because you didn't always get their purpose right away.

Book 1 of this duology, the story concept is solid and well rounded. The writing was good, not great. The character development throughout was well done as the dual POV gives us those inner thoughts and struggles of the main characters. The plot twist was plot twisty. I have no other way to explain it but it did catch me off guard in a good way. It can be seen as a multipart plot twist and 3 of 4 of the parts were well executed but I think one of them could’ve been better executed. Overall it was a good read and I look forward to book 2.

Like the first book, this installment of the trilogy was good but not great.  I did like how it overlapped a little with the first book and you got a peak into the characters for the third one. It’s another book I’m not sure I would enjoy reading but was a good listen.

It’s a book about serial killers who kill serial killers and fall in love. They also have day jobs and the MMC is a chef, which I love! The concept is interesting. The audiobook was a good listen. It wasn’t amazing but it was good. It’s not that dark for being a serial killer book and it was minimal on the spice. Plot twist at the end did get me though.

Outside my normal genre of reading, this dystopian story was well worth the read! The flow was perfect, the writing was great, the characters were diverse. I may venture into the dystopia genre more often!

I really enjoy books about books which is what made me pick this up.  While it wasn't just a book about books and I wouldn't call it a "great" read, it was a good read. I enjoyed Schaffert's writing so much I didn't want to stop until it was over. Though I do wish the ending had been rounded out a little more.

Holy shit. That's it, that's the review. I expected something much darker based on the trigger warnings but it was honestly pretty mild. As not an audiobook person, I am so glad I gave it a chance after all the clips I heard, 100% worth it. It was sexy but funny and overall an enjoyable listen. The banter, the realness of the characters, all of it was amazing. I also love a good epilogue that wraps up the story perfectly.

While the story was intriguing the pace of it was very slow making it hard to stay interested. By the end it felt like there were still some questions about some smaller details the author chose to make points of that were inconsequential to the plot itself.
