Great book. On the surface, I thought the concept might not work that well, but I'm glad I picked up the book because it was very entertaining. I would definitely read more novels by Scalzi.

Long ago I attempted to read this book, and got lost in Tolkein's many (MANY) words and couldn't get into the story. I recently tried The Hobbit, and found that it was not so difficult to read - and I vowed to give Lord of the Rings another shot.

Well, I devoured this book in a week. I didn't find it hard to read (though it IS wordy in several places), and actually appreciated the many descriptions Tolkein provides of the immense world. The only thing I could do without are the songs, but I at least understand why they are there and appreciate them for that reason.

I'm taking a brief break but I will probably dive into Two Towers later this afternoon. Hopefully it's as fun to read through as Fellowship has been.

Similar to the movies, I preferred the second book to the first one.

Man, Sarumon is a friggin dick. The Scouring of the Shire was an amazing chapter, probably my favourite in ROTK. Didn't like this book as much as the other two, though.

I thought this was a much better-executed book compared to Book 1. There was one story as the focus and I think this made the writing better as well.

Looking forward to Book 3!
