I must say that I wanted to like this book, I did. I had pretty high expectations for it, but it did nothing for me. It had potential to be much more and it makes me wander that maybe it was too deep for me. An uncaring mother that is being covered up because of addiction man and drugs, simply put, a terrible mother, no ifs and or buts about it. A kid who is lovingly protective.... Much more I could say but don't want to spoil it. I felt that there was too much of the family dysfunction and too less of the gifts that were given, if that makes any type of sense. Sad from Beginning to end in my opinion.

I the end I wound up loving this book. In the beginning I was struggling with it. Not because it was a bad story, not at all but I found myself getting frustrated with the past and present, back and forth. I got mad at Claire most of the book. I have so many questions. I felt like I learned a lot but I wanted to know more about the family. Like the last couple chapters I felt was rushed but all of a sudden it seemed like it started to really capture my attention.
I suck at reviews when it comes to writing about a book.
Overall, I recommend this book. I sadly do not know much about the genocide that took place and I was old enough to understand and now I want to learn more.

This amazing book gave my imagination a run for its money! I loved the color details in each page, not once did I have to drum up the right look for the people and places, the book is just that detailed. Enjoyed it immensely and can say that it is good enough to reread in the future. Not disappointed!
