Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King, Owen King
4.0
A long, long read, but that's the King's taste. It took about 50 pages before I got into it, I almost put it down. 50 pages of all different characters they had to introduce you to. Thankfully I kept reading and glad I did. I enjoyed those 700 pages but glad when it was over. Not a dull moment that's for sure. Only thing I wish was that there was a better or more of a reason for it. Did I somehow miss the reason it really happened? Maybe not, maybe the reason wasn't good enough for me. I always enjoy Stephen King.
The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle

The writing was fine. Slightly comedic in some areas and also very serious. I have questions, so many. I guess my overall mystery I am trying to figure out is if this book was one of those deep psychological stories? To make you think one thing but the issue is much deeper? I didn't like much of the circumstances and feel that it was one level of madness that made me angry and nothing that made me happy. It was flat in my opinion. Words to describe the whole cast of characters, forgotten, abandoned, sad, pitiful, weird. A lot of things seemed far fetched in a plot that screamed "this could happen in real life! " unfortunately I was left disappointed. I didn't appreciate the ending. All I will say is "she couldn't call or visit?". You will know what I mean by this if you read it.
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

Jodi always brings out every emotion in me when I read one of her books. I had to give her a break for some time because it can take a toll on me. She never disappoints and really gets me thinking about the "what if". I really enjoyed this book, even though I did NOT want to read when Turk got his chance to narrate, for obvious reasons. Other than that, he style of writing is always superb!
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin

I loved it! I will admit, the first 50 pages were rough for me, all the different names and not sure how to pronounce it. As well as trying to imagine the Sky place, I couldn't conjure up to match her descriptions and that was probably the most frustrating part me for me and the reason for 4 stars. I found this author because I wanted to see what African-American Sci-fi and Fantasy writers had to offer and I was not disappointed! I assume they are rare but so glad I was able to get into Jemisin, so I have added all her work to my Want to Read list and I will read them all. I can imagine the beauty of a movie this would be. The colors alone would be out of this world

Such a lovely and magical book that was done just right and not drastic. A feel good read that anyone can enjoy
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor

Not a badly written piece of work. My favorite was the cultural aspect of the story. But to me this truly is for the young between ages 12 and 16. It was not thrilling nor adventurous enough for my liking. I wanted more. It's possible this is really a character development part of series but the potential of their abilities could have been so much more exciting than described.
