The Broken Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin
4.0
This book was by far, better than the first! I liked the first one so don't get me wrong, but this one right here? Kept me glued to it. So many time I shed a tear or got angry and frustrated, mainly towards the end. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I hated the ending, and not because it was incomplete, just because it made me very emotional. I immediately went and got the third and final book of this series and though I may wait a couple weeks to read it, I don't really want it to end
Becoming by Michelle Obama
4.0
4.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Michelle took us from her beginning of life until after leaving the White House. My favorite part had to be meeting her husband and being beside him (as best she could or was allowed to be) during his many stages of political life. Reading about her side let us see her emotions behind all of the things we witnessed through news outlets and social media. I barely knew anything about politics and still don't but I do know that it's rough and nothing I would ever want to be married into. Also I love wordy books as long as it's actually saying something. I was able to picture everything she wrote about. I cried when she lost a loved one. I was so happy for when she got pregnant. I was perturbed when Barack went to write his book. I held my breath as they awaited the results of the presidency, even though I knew the outcome. The writing was just that good in my opinion. Only reason it's a 4.5 and not 5 is because I thought there was too much presidential talk if that makes sense. I found myself feeling like maybe Barack did not want to write another book so she decided to defend a lot of topics surrounding their time there. Maybe not, but maybe she just wanted to defend her husband's character and not the president he was? Either way, I loved it and glad I bought it and I will keep it forever
The Broken Girls by Simone St. James

It's been a little while since I read this, but I remember that I really enjoyed it. I liked the different characters and the plot twist. I liked the spookiness that was thrown in but I think my favorite part was just reading from about the 5 (?) young girls and their stories.
Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America by Michael Eric Dyson

Preachy, but an okay read. It's still on my shelf because it's one of those I deem to be a conversation piece if spotted on my shelf.
The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King
3.0
I can't remember how many Stephen King books I've read or movies I've seen but it's been quite a few. I picked this one up without reading synopsis or looking at ratings or reviews because in my opinion for him I don't need to do that. I think had I read it and sometimes when it gives a very vague synopsis which leaves me without much, I will turn to a page in the middle of the book to read to check the style, tone, flow and language. Now had I done that, I would have put the book back down.
This was different for me. I want to say it's different for King as well but since I have yet to read all his works, I will say that it's just an assumption that this is different. From the title I should have known that it would take place in a much earlier time. Is it called medieval? I'm not sure since I am not familiar with that Era, not by reading or watching. The writing style suggests it but it wasn't heavy, almost as if he was not sure to fully write in that style. Glad he didn't because I didn't care for it at all.
I liked it though it didn't really get good until maybe the last 50 pages. I know, I know, but I read it because it kept me intrigued enough to keep going. I won't say it dragged but it was not heart pounding until the end. Also there was this thing with narration that I am not familiar with. The narrator talks to the reader, not much but some. It's basically supposed to be a storytelling style I assume. Still not sure how I felt about that, though some of it made me smile.
All in all, 3 stars because though I liked the writing most of all, the story lacked horror from Flagg. In the same way that Peter got my heart racing from his manly and authoritative demeanor, I felt Flagg should have scared the shit out of me but instead I felt like I could have kicked his ass and would have not feared him like most. Just my opinion. I still enjoy King's books and look forward to more

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

*sigh* I so so loved this story. From the very first page I was sucked in and rode that ride until the end. I'm excited it's a trilogy because I don't want it to be over. I have to know what else comes of this story I felt was just getting started the last half of the book. Don't get me wrong, it was well entertaining throughout. I like her writing and I know now that I better get used to the way the language is used. That was the only thing I found to be very annoying to me. The aliases and using the first and last name each time a character is spoken to. I am intrigued by Morozko and dare I say smitten? Lol we shall see. I could have this allllll the way wrong. I mourned all deaths except one. I wonder if you will feel the same?

Okay so first of all, Yessss! I need the next one. I promised myself this year I would expand and try to read other forms of books and comics/Graphic novels are one of them. This is my first introduction into it, by research on Booktube, this had some really good reviews. I was not disappointed. This was perfect for me. I'm a mood reader and I just finished a heavy novel and needed something light and quick until I could figure out what my next book would be. So I think I will read comics as my in between reads.
