The Testament of Loki by Joanne M. Harris

I was a little disappointed with this book, considering how the first one was. I liked that it explored other parts fo this universe. But it was still disappointing. The plot was quite out there and it did not provide much of the slight humor the first one had. This lives up to the quote, the first is always the best. (Not always true, but in this case: yes)

This was also a summer book I read for school. Honestly, it was one of the better ones. I got to choose from a list my teacher sent out. My mom then recommended this one to me. I was glad that I somewhat liked it. Thanks Mom! I was very unhappy with the grammar. I totally get that it adds to the story and the character, but something about it just wouldn’t get past me. It did not necessarily make it more difficult to read. More rather it just really bothered me every time I read it. But, as I said, definitely not the worst book I have had to read for school.

I really really really liked this book. Some parts were really predictable, but I find it hard to get a book without some. It was such a joy to read and I really enjoyed the character. I hugely support LGBTQ+ and it is actually the reason I picked up this book. I was not disappointed. I love learning more about this aspect of todays society. They are also just people, like you and me. But books like these allow me to explore a place in todays world I do not visit, because that may not be me and thats okay. That, after all, is what books are for.
Tres Fabulae Horrificae: Ghouls, ghosts and gruesome deeds in graphic format for the intermediate Latin reader by Jocelyn R. Demuth

Very well written. It was so much fun to read this with my class. We all had some laughs and looked forward to reading each page. Our favorite story is Killing Death. We found joy that there are stories like this in Latin for us. It is always fun to be able to read a good Latin story together.

Why the school keeps giving us books like this to read, I’ll never know. It was just a pain to get through. The fact that it kept switching POVs did not help either. It was hard to keep straight who was who. I trudged through the sludge that was this book perilously. I just wish we could read some super exciting and great books for school. Sometimes what people consider classics are not exactly the best books for people who really don’t have any connection to these books. For them its just a bore.

Honestly, why do I keep reading these books. They’re good yes, but its just so many and I’m still not exactly sure about my feelings toward these books. They’re okay. They’re good. But its also just a wee bit cliche. Yet I still like them. I don’t know what is happening but I’m almost done. Maybe I just feel like I really need to finish the series to know that everything in fact does work out and it is not just a montage of everything spiraling downward.
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

It was a cute little story. At the beginning I was having a hard time getting into it. Towards the middle I was able to really understand the story more. Eliza was quite a relatable character and the entirety of the book flowed nicely. I see it as a cute little book that was a nice break from the more heavy books I’ve been reading. So it was nice.

Audrey and Thomas are back! Yay! I absolutely love these books. The first one is still my favorite, but the second was still amazing. They are fun and full of gore-y mystery. I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire book waiting to see what would happen next. I normally don’t like mysteries, but this is definitely up my ally.
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

I liked that this book explored racial equality and parental pressure in a new perspective. It gave it a little more than just a book about two people falling in love almost as soon as they meet each other. But, thats a lot of books. I don’t have much to complain about here. For the most part the book was okay, sometimes I just felt myself getting a little bored with it, especially in the early middle, when it slowed down. I’m glad I read it, though. Nicola Yoon is one of my favorite authors.

I’m sick of these kind of books. If I never have to read a book with a rough outline of this plot, I will by happy til the end. First, a boy (its almost always a boy, never a girl) is a child and he has a best best friend. Then something happens in the boys life that traumatizes him. Oh no! He then spends the rest of his childhood into adulthood trying to repress this memory. Then when he is old and all grown up he realizes that he must valiantly go and face this traumatizing thing that happened. UGH! I’m sick of it. This is like the fifth book I have had to read for school with this plot line. Can’t these authors think of anything else to write about. Or maybe put a girl in for a change. Maybe she would be smart enough to not run away from her past. It’s all just so repetitive and boring.
