Knight of the Goddess by Briar Boleyn
Sad to be done with the journey of Morgan and Draven. This book had several twists I definitely didn't see coming! I enjoyed the rest of Morgan and Draven's tale. The journey is slower for most of the book and then a lot happens in the last several chapters.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is a thrilling entry into the fantasy genre that blends action, romance, and high-stakes tension, all set in the brutal world of a military academy for dragon riders. The story centers around Violet, a determined young woman thrust into a world of danger where only the strongest survive. Her journey to becoming a dragon rider is fraught with deadly trials, political intrigue, and intense relationships that keep the reader on edge.
The plot is fast-paced, with frequent twists and turns that heighten the tension. Violet’s character growth is one of the book’s highlights; her intelligence and inner strength make her an inspiring protagonist. The romantic subplot between Violet and Xaden adds depth to the narrative, creating a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers dynamic that keeps readers hooked.
Yarros' world-building is rich and immersive, filled with fascinating details about the dragons and the academy's ruthless culture. The action sequences are vivid and intense, perfectly balancing the quieter, more emotional moments of the book. Themes of loyalty, survival, and power dynamics are explored in meaningful ways, adding depth to the fast-paced plot.
This book is ideal for fans of fantasy romance, dragon lore, and enemies-to-lovers tropes. With its blend of heart-pounding action and emotional depth, Fourth Wing is sure to captivate readers from start to finish.

I enjoyed the story but I feel there could have been more. The story is about the FMC finding her long-lost father she never met. Her mother asked her to find him on her deathbed. I was intrigued by the story because she discovers that her father is not human but is fae. Rather than the story starting with her beginning the journey to find her father, it is an abrupt start with her already making it into the fae realm and practically at her father's doorstep. As the book progresses you find out that travel through the veil is uncertain and can vary both towards easy travel or rough travel. I feel like the beginning of the story could have been more detailed on the FMC's travel through the veil. I was intrigued by how the bonded mates portion happened and the struggle with how to handle it. The romance is not heavy in this book. I would say minimum romance, but I am unsure if it becomes more the later into the series you get. I do like the journey of her learning how to deal with her new powers. I could do without the long titles that a good deal of the characters have. They seem long and confusing to me. The FMC complains about them as well. The world-building is very minimal and not a lot of detail. I am continuing the series.

I enjoyed this read. The writing style was different than anything else I have read before. A story hidden within a story. It was unique and unconventional. I enjoyed the letter aspect.
4 strangers in the library hear a scream that connects them and gets them talking to each other. The 4 quickly become friends. The scream turns out to be from a girl who was murdered and the friends become a team working to find out what happened (Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys anyone?).
I enjoyed the way the author would write the story of the mystery and then the letter after each chapter from Leo talking about what happened within the chapter. This story was a fun whodoneit and I enjoyed the journey finding out who the culprit was. And boy was I surprised!

I loved this book!
- Worldbuilding
- Considered fantasy bc of the magic system.
- Romance: Slow burn (NO SPICE BUT STILL SO GOOD) (romantic tension) (Kissing)
- Witty banter (SO GOOD!)
- Enemies to lovers to enemies
- Dual POV
- Knife to the throat
- He kills for her
- "Who did this to you?"
- Hunger Games vibes
- Red Queen vibes after the halfway point.
- Age level teen and up
This book had me squealing like a high school girl (I'm in my 30s and married for 15 years). I love a female character who doesn't go anywhere without a knife/dagger and pulls it on people all the time, especially someone's throat. Pae is one of those characters and she would be my best friend!
The book does start off a bit slow, but that is due to building the world building, getting to know the characters, and the magic system. Getting close to the middle it begins to pick up and then stays pretty consistent.
I enjoyed the depth of the characters. I love them both! Kai and Paedyn are some of my favorite MCs. Kai is an amazing book boyfriend! The things this man says to Pae... just...you will understand! Paedyn is fierce and I how she is not afraid to put a knife to a man's throat.
Be warned the last 50 pages will upset you. Some people were able to predict it. I didn't see it coming till I was coming right up to it and it caught me off guard. I was too busy enjoying the movie in my head to think about what they ending was going to look like. I did not know this was not a standalone so that is part of why it was not as predictable. If I knew there was a book 2 I could have mentally been prepared to have a rough ending. lol
Also want to note that I have not read Hunger Games and it is beginning compared very closely to it.
