i know (and hate) enough cheating men in their 40s to care for the premise of this book but because i trust ms. ferrante i picked this up anyway. obviously it was way more than that at its core, a story of spiraling, “absence of sense”, etc. hard to read because it was horrific especially when i saw myself, but at the same time i couldnt put it down. leave it to her to get me to read about things i have an aversion to. also can someone tell my mom to read thisssss :p

i have a hard time deciding what to rate this so i wont :) i think the disjointedness really worked for me here (i know i said i THOUGHT i didn’t like it when stories did that in past reviews but now i kind of fw it) and achieved the dreamlike feeling she was trying to achieve.

the writer’s voice in this is something i’m objectively not a fan of but because of how raw and personal the subject  matter is it didn’t really matter. super gut-wrenching stuff. a perspective on and of sex workers i’ve never really seen discussed in this way before.

loved the letter to her daughter.

it’s probably the week i’m having but i kept dozing off at certain parts of the book but i’m glad i stuck with it because i ended up really liking the second half! tove captures the subtleties of an ordinary relationship in such a unique way where a lot of it is just implied. just a charming read overall!

now would i care about this at all if they weren’t women? who’s to say

i would read this during my breaks at work and every time i had to put it down  i couldn’t stop thinking about what was going to happen to them my entire shift. i was reading the final 10% of this during my last break today and had to get back to work and i couldn’t take the suspense so i borrowed the audiobook on libby to listen to the rest of the way home!!!

this was such an intense read to the very last page (or second). now that i’m writing this i think i wanna give it 4 stars! this story truly gave me a lot of things to think about and i think the reason it was so haunting to me personally is because i have such a big fear of failing the people i love (who doesn’t but it’s been plaguing me especially recently). amongst other thingsssss

when ur circle small but ur all crazy!!

in all seriousness i started pride month off strong with this one, thank u to whoever curated the display that this book was a part of @ vromans.

this book had a lot of things i *thought* i didn’t like in books: disjointed, nonlinear, frustrating characters, etc but for whatever reason it all worked for me in this book. honestly this is something only lesbians could write imo. can’t exactly explain it in words rn but all i know is i will diving into more of her work after this.

i’m going to be thinking about this book for a while

an example of a story where i don’t particularly like the characters but i still find the story interesting and compelling. to be honest i didn’t get it (why people like it so much) at first but towards the second half i was a lot more interested and i understand why this series can be so beloved. i haven’t read the rest of the series but based on where this one left off i’m excited to continue.

the concept was interesting but the execution was lacking for me. i listened to the audiobook so i don’t know if it would have been different with the visuals. i didn’t like any of the characters which is fine but i also didn’t find them interesting or compelling in any way so :/. this is the second grady hendrix book i’ve tried and it may be the last!! it’s just not for me but i think they come up with interesting concepts.
