Penguin Classics edition by avery’s translation, I must say, was an underwhelming read.

As someone who is familiar with the turkish translations I found this one too distant and lacked the spirit of it.
Although it is understandable the language difference isn’t hard to overcome, if I hadn’t read Khayyam before I’d think he is overrated. I will check FitzGerald translation as well. I had the constant urge to check other translations, compare with the turkish versions to compensate for the rhythm of the rubais.

I read the same book at least 5 times from other writers.

Interesting world, and interesting characters; although equally annoying ones too. I was curious enough to finish it, but the story often felt flat.

Lila, who is not like other girls and is not interested in dresses and baubles, almost made me stop reading; but I’m glad I pushed through. There were no awe inspiring moments, but many interesting ideas that I was glad to read about.

I’m unsure if I m’m going to check the other books and endure Lila again, but otherwise I would.
