Started off really slow and it took me a bit to figure out who all the characters were but honestly not bad! it’s not my usual genre at All but I had a good time reading it, finished it in one sitting. I honestly just want to read more about Philippa and Tommy’s domestic life more than anything, I truly did not care about the other weird subplots

Once again I’m blown away by LaCour’s writing. Something about her prose just….god it’s so good. I love it. It’s so soft and airy while still delivering a heavy emotional story.

Oh my god this was so good???? I was absolutely hooked the entire time I read it, and I have to say this is probably one of the best set ups for a sequel I’ve read in a while. Like I HAVE to read the second one immediately this was so fun

edit: this review is funny to me now having read the 2nd

definitely suffers middle book syndrome i will say this. not nearly as enticing as book 1 but it was still enjoyable enough. the boys get on my nerves though tbh like everyone is so shady for literally no reason like i do not understand a single person's motivations here

I was worried I wouldn’t like this book very much, but I actually really enjoyed it. The characters are fascinating to me, specifically Libby, Reina, and Parisia. I want to know every single thing about them and their powers. There’s a second book, yeah? I cannot wait to get my hands on it my god

This book was very enjoyable honestly and I found the story incredibly fascinating, however after reading other reviews from actual Hindu people, it probably shouldn’t get much praise on the retelling front. I think if this were a story Inspired by the myth with different character names and whatnot, it would maybe work better in that sense. Like I said it was an enjoyable read and I liked this author’s writing style very much like I’m very glad I picked this up. The 4 stars are based on enjoyability alone. It is worth looking at the criticisms however, especially if like me you had never heard of the Ramayana or Kaikeyi before picking up this book.
