The writing was annoying me. It was choppy, juvenile, and too colloquial that it didn’t fit the setting. Lots of telling not showing. It wasn’t interesting

So sweet and adorable. This is like the perfect little story to read when you want your heart to be happy and you don’t have the mental bandwidth to commit to a long, involved plot. No misunderstandings, no angst, no breakups. Just penguin and polar bear shifters who love each other

Ehhh this book wasn’t great. Insta lust/love is not my thing, so I almost DNF’d this right at the beginning when the MMC was already talking about f*cking the FMC like 2.5 seconds after they met. The characters were not very interesting and they felt very one dimensional. I’m also done with billionaire romances. This is the straw the broke the camels back for me with them. Like, why can’t the author just make him be a millionaire? That’s still more money than anyone would ever need. The fact that the author didn’t seem to understand how much money a billion dollars actually is, and that you can’t become a billionaire just by owning a talent agency, totally took me out of it, repeatedly. Honestly, not sure what made me keep reading. I guess it was easy to read, sentences were well structured. I did like that there was communication between the couple.
The Summer Palace and Other Stories by C.S. Pacat

This was what I was craving at the end of Kings Rising. Surprisingly, I thought Ancel’s story was the best one. But I loved the summer palace story where we got to see Damen and Laurent happy and together. It was so sweet. I already feel the book hangover setting in.

This series is 5⭐️ amazing. I would say the second book is my favorite, but the third book was wonderful, too. I wanted a little more at the end of the story of them being happy together, but that’s just because I love them so much and I’m not ready to let them go.
I need some processing time to figure out all the feelings I have about finishing this series, but I already miss them

Prince's Gambit by C.S. Pacat

Ugh this book is so good. I feel like my heart is being ripped out by this series. Laurent is maybe one of the best characters I’ve ever read. His depth of character is a masterpiece. The relationship between him and Damen is a masterclass in enemies to lovers. But to reduce it by just saying it’s this trope does it a disservice to how complex and layered it is. I haven’t felt all consumed by a series like this in a long time.

I really enjoyed this. The writing style took me a while to get into, but I liked that it was a bit more complex than books I’ve been reading lately. It gave my brain a chance to flex its muscles. I was warned going into this book about all the violence and rape, and that was a well deserved warning. I felt that it was not out of place in the story, but rather used to further explain how the court operated. If that is a personal trigger for you, though, I would steer clear of this book. I am so enthralled by these characters already. I can’t wait to read the next one and see their relationship develop

🤷🏼♀️ I loved it. Might be a right book at the right time thing for me, but I couldn’t put this book down. I thought the pacing was great. I liked that there wasn’t much plot beyond their relationship because I loved their interactions together. I loved that Lori wasn’t the one to fall in love first. I thought the epilogue was one of the best I’ve read. I will definitely be rereading this
Ranger by Dr. Rebecca Sharp

Ranger carried this book. I don’t know if I can forgive the author for naming the brothers “Archer” “Hunter” “Gunner” and “Ranger.” But I also didn’t read the rest of the series so I didnt have to be subjected to that too much. Sydney was very blah. The plot was a little slow and predictable in some ways, but Ranger ticked all my boxes for a MMC and I liked this book overall. The epilogues were a little OTT for me, but again, I didn’t read any of the others in the series so I wasn’t the target audience for the emotional reward the author was trying to give at the end
