I keep waffling on what to give this book.  Was it a fun quick read? Yeah.  Was the art beautiful? Absolutely!

But the story kind of fell flat and there were so many.... Holes (pun intended) in how things work that it didn't really do it for me. Not enough actual smut and not enough actual plot.  At least commit to something.

The only reason this gets a 1 star instead of none is because I feel that Komi's inability to communicate is very realistic and does work well as a premise.  However, so many of the other characters are just weirdly characterized and seem incredibly one-dimensional and prop-like.  I am unsure also about how they're handing the gender/identity of one of the characters - perhaps that gets handled better in later volumes but the whole comic just feels so childish and poorly written that I'm not bothering with the rest.  Genuinely shocked to see people recommending this as the first manga for people to read as I think it's a very poor example of this type of storytelling.

An interesting read and I'm certainly invested enough to read the next book in the series.  Truthfully, I am more interested in the way magic works in this world and less in the characters, though they do have their charms.  Mostly, I found that they all felt very surface-level, useful for plot purposes but not really fully developed and I'm curious to see if the next book resolves some of those issues.
