I already read the whole novel a few months ago, but since it recently got published in english I had to buy the physical copy and re-read it as soon as possible. And of course, I had to come here to hype it up.

Before you pick this up, please keep in mind that this is a comedy. The book is very intentionally unserious and the whole setting is absolutely hilarious. I suggest you read this when you’re feeling sad because I read it every morning while commuting (sighs, I was really at my limit) and it made me cackle so much. It was just what I needed at the time to be honest.

Although this book focuses on the relationship between the MC and ML, it also explores the intrigue nest that is the royal family. Other common elements like transmigration and the existence of a system — which is, by the way, the most flexible one I’ve ever read, as it changes to fit the direction the characters take as the story develops — were pretty interesting as they were different from other danmei novels. After all, it’s not everyday a guy transmigrates into a novel as the tyrant’s pet fish, right?

Overall, a very fluffy, lighthearted and comedic read if that’s what you’re looking for.

Giving this 4 stars because the plot was really interesting and I absolutely loved how the author explored the zombie transformations and hierarchy, as well as the conflicts throughout the novel. However, the romance between the MC and the ML left me feeling so uncomfortable… Although I really liked the MC’s personality, as it’s something I rarely see, the way he
treated the ML and forced him to give up his emotions by transforming him into a sub zombie king AND ALMOST KILLED HIM
was disgusting.

This was such a cute and lighthearted read. The plot isn’t nothing extraordinary, it’s pretty much a cliche, but it was so refreshing to have this type of sunny and sincere gong that I found myself a bit sad as I reached the last pages because I really didn’t want their story to end. Honestly wasn’t expecting Qin Zhongyue to be THAT foolish, but it made the story much funnier and entertaining. Their relationship is so wholesome, and I’m so happy Xie Zhongxing was able to find happiness this time (wiping my tears)
