An interesting spin on a Sherlock-style caper with fantasy
genuinely forgot i was reading a book in a book and was highly amused by that
interesting premise, casual dragons and schooling but different stakes than other high fantasy books
Interesting, premise was solid. Not sure if I will pick up the second book or just find a summary.
This was a lighthearted romance book. There was some back trauma that happened off-page/off-book, so please read the author's CW/TW. I breezed through this book - it was fun, had some splashes of tension and romance, and I wanted to know more about the side characters and Vogel Springs. I think some things were a little glossed over in the effort of page space/book length, but overall I think it was a solid book.

I devoured this book; I was in for the ride. It may have just been a nice change of pace that I needed, but enough twists to keep me guessing and not sure how things were going to go and end up. While this is a YA book, there was a little YA romance and tension in it, but I don't think it detracted from the story, it just added another layer of "is everyone as good as they say they are" type of thing. Overall, I am intrigued by this school and would love to know more about the school as I loved the concept of a mystery focused school (detective, forensics, and every year there's a prize to solve a "staged" crime with clues).

I found this to be an interesting story! I thought the basis of the grandparents' lives and including notes at the beginning of each chapter helped set the tone. It helped me grasp more than just the fiction of the book, if that makes sense -- it carried a little more weight, in a good way. Was there a moment where I was pretty sure what was going to happen next? Yes, but thankfully the character was more than just two-dimensional in that way. I thought the differences in the main characters was important and added to the story - the comparison between the sheltered life of the rich girl and the poor boy, each longing for something the other has. I thought the fantasy elements added to the story, and overall, I just really enjoyed this one.

medium-paced
This was a solid book. I thought the mystery took a little bit to set up, but it was good to meet the characters and how they interacted. I think there were plenty of breadcrumbs throughout the book - but I did feel a little miffed about how I "was told" some information about the main character Savvy. It felt like the book didn't want me to know everything about her in the beginning, as if it would have changed how I felt about her? But maybe the idea was to make an older main character more relatable with not sharing all of their life experiences up front? Regardless, Savvy is an intriguing character, and I'm sure she'll do more great things.

Solid breakdown and summary of some mythology. Pleasant audiobook. As with all myths, lots of tragedy and some gruesome ends, but maybe a little more palatable as the descriptions didn’t feel as graphic as they could have been (still bad things gods did) but still present as part of the story and myths
