Reading Anthony's story was both heartbreaking AND heartwarming.
Knowing that the author is nonverbal himself made everything that happened in the book pull at your heartstrings even more!
If you have anyone in your life who's nonverbal or who struggles to communicate in a conventional way, I absolutely recommend reading this book.
Actually, if you're human at all you should probably read it. It just might change your perspective on some things.

Disclaimer: I'm far from being a professional book reviewer and I rate almost exclusively based on how well the book kept my attention, and how surprised I was by any plot twists.

This book like the first alternated between Ainsley's and Peter's perspectives.
Plot twists and secret reveals don't often catch me too off guard, but this book got me!
Towards the end a secret was revealed that I kind of thought I saw coming, but I still had to go back and re-listen to one of Ainsley's chapters to figure out what information I had missed.

If you enjoy characters you love to hate and/or hate to love, this series is for you!

Cannot wait to start listening to the 3rd book!

I LOVED this book! It will absolutely not be everyone's cup of tea, but the unconventionality of the characters made it incredibly appealing to me.
If you enjoy characters you love to hate and/or hate to love, this series is for you!

Each chapter alternates between the perspective of Ainsley and her husband Peter. The synopsis mentions "dark secrets" but I listened to the book before reading what it was about, so I was quite shocked as each dark secret was revealed. I will immediately be starting the 2nd book as soon as I share this review.

I'm far from being a professional book reviewer and I rate almost exclusively based on how well the book kept my attention, and how surprised I was by any plot twists.
This book held my attention throughout it's entirety based partly on story within the story, but the final reveal and ending were disappointing.
When you glance at the table of contents, you see that most chapters are numbered normally as you'd expect, but there are also chapters numbered by Roman numerals. The Roman numeral-ed chapters are essentially a story within the story, and the anticipation of getting to the next Roman numeral-ed chapter kept my interest throughout the book.
However, it felt obvious to me fairly early into the book how the Roman numeral-ed chapters fit in with the main storyline. And as previously mentioned, the ending wasn't my favorite.

That being said, this book wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. I did listen to the audiobook, and the narrator wasn't my favorite. I've really enjoyed the other books I've read of Natalie Barelli's, but this one was just okay in comparison. The "plot twists" were semi predictable for me. But overall it was an enjoyable thriller that held my attention.
