Loving this so far. I thought it was going to take me a bit to get through (still is due to school and work) but I'm finding myself needing to read it to see what happens to the family next. First book I've read on and about Koreans, very insightful so far. Have teared up a couple times.

So finished the book. Again, it has made me cry multiple times, which i do like when books are able to do that, make me feel, something. I'm also pretty empathetic...
I kept wanting everything to go right for this family, and every time it did I'd start to get nervous about what was going to go wrong. Which happened a lot, but it wasn't predictable by any means, and a lot of the events shocked me. Every character had a place in my heart and i just wanted to protect them, know more about them. Min Jin Lee teased me with these characters, give just enough to satisfy my curiosity but got me craving more information.

Ultimately very insightful and thought provoking, super happy I read it.

I love the art in this, and the whole concept was adorable. However, towards the end of the book got a little disconnected. Something was a little off by it, it almost felt rushed and forced. Will update as soon as my niece reads it.

I absolutely loved the cover, it drew me in immediately. The synopsis was what made me buy the book, however, as interesting as the synopsis was, I felt the story itself a bit lacking. Over all it kept my interest but it felt like there was no real climax or any real danger. It wasn't as thrilling as I kept expecting it to be and missed the mark for me. I also didn't have much attachment to the characters. Over all the book had a great concept, and perhaps with a bit more time and pages it would have been great.

Someone compared my illustrations to this book last semester and I was confused as I was thinking of the movie. She showed me the illustrations and my memory suddenly recalled seeing the book in my elementary school library. I had to have it. Nothing like the movie although I would enjoy and in depth graphic novel about this town of Chewandswallow. Loved the art style as well. I can see some similarities but the line work is so wonderful.

I absolutely loved this book, there wasn’t a dull moment. Admittedly, I was a little disconnected in the beginning, but I grew to love the characters pretty quickly. The intermingling of these characters was elegant and subtle, and I was just waiting for them all to meet, and yet hoped they wouldn’t. There was a quick insta-love that I was honestly OK with but questioned how it was going to work. I’m sad that nothing came from it but I wasn’t devastated, and the story was still beautiful all the same.
