3 ⭐️ Decent monster romance

"He may be a monster to everyone else, but he isn't a monster to me."

This was my first monster romance, and it was pretty good. I didn't love it necessarily but it was a quick, easy read with an interesting plot and fascinating world-building. However, there were some things that bothered me.

I enjoyed the characters, for the most part, especially Nandi and Telarion (I want to know more about him!), but sometimes the MC annoyed me. She's supposed to be a badass but happens to get her ass kicked repeatedly and always needs Telarion's assistance to get her out of bad situations.

The pacing of the story was odd. It started really interesting, but it felt like the author dragged the story out with unnecessary descriptions and repetitive inner dialogue. But there were a few action-packed/exciting moments when the story picked up and carried my interest.

The progression of the romance is taking too long. Let's be honest, that's why I'm reading this story, so in that regard, it was a letdown. Nothing really happens between the two except August and Telarion getting to third base and realizing they have feelings for each other. And I heard from a friend who read the second book that they don't really come together until the end of the third book, so I'm out. I don't want to wait that long.

I also don't believe in their romance. I didn't understand where the shift in their feelings came from. August goes from being horrified of Telarion to liking him because he saved her a couple of times. I get being grateful, but I don't understand the transition from gratitude to love. ''

I saw the third act coming. The stuff about the haunted house and eldritch was no surprise, so what was supposed to be an intense plot point wasn't that exciting to me.

This is random, but when August vomits, Uncle Fred offer's her "a glass of milk to settle your tummy." What the f*ck??? No. That's so disgusting! Who in their right mind would think milk is the perfect drink after someone vomits?

Anyways, while the story had its flaws, it was still a relatively entertaining, quick read. I don't plan on continuing with the second book, but I'd recommend checking it out if you like paranormal/monster, slow-burn romances.

3 ⭐️ It had its moment, but I didn't connect with Declan and Iris like I wanted

"There's nothing I won't do to earn my inheritance. Remember that when you forget this is only a game to me."

Terms and Conditions is an easy, entertaining read with great banter and angst. Honestly, this book got me good in that department. I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest a few times. For that alone, I was drawn to finish the story.

However, there were a few things that hindered my enjoyment.

The overall premise was a stretch. Forcing Declan to get married and have a baby or else he won’t receive his multi-billion dollar inheritance is ridiculous. I'm not sure if this actually has ever happened, but it feels far-fetched. And honestly, I could overlook that if there was any explanation as to why that is what his grandfather stipulated in his will. But that doesn't happen.

I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second. Once Declan and Iris get married, I couldn't really tell you much about what happens next besides they live together, have a few tense moments, Declan realizes he loves Iris, and Iris fights her heart. The details are blurred together.

I truly didn’t feel much chemistry between Declan and Iris. I think this story heavily relied on the boss/employee relationship to persuade you it was love all along versus actually showing us real moments of connection. And when Declan finally realizes he wants Iris, it seemed out of the blue because he didn't have a lot of internal struggle leading up to that conclusion. It was like a switch was flipped, and he suddenly decided he wasn't pretending anymore. And maybe that's what happened, but I would have liked to have seen Declan analyze these feelings more.

Not a lot of spice compared to the first book. Not sure this really hindered my enjoyment, but it let me down. I loved the sexual tension and smut in The Fine Print, so I had high expectations for this one.

The drama at the end seemed like a weak plot point. I get that there needed to be one final conflict that drew Declan and Iris apart before they ultimately decided their marriage was real, but the drama with his father/Mr. Yakura and the fight with Iris seemed out of the blue. I also didn’t believe that Declan, the king of being cool and collected, would lose his cool like that with Iris…and then nothing is resolved with his father or Declan becoming CEO. I'm comparing this again to The Fine Print, but I liked how that story focused on Rowan and Zahra’s romance while also showing amazing character growth that translated to their work performance.

Cal was the best part of this story! I adore him and am curious to find out what happened between him and Alana!

Overall, this was an entertaining read and a good addition to the Dreamland Billionaires Series. But unfortunately, I just didn't connect with the characters, which ultimately led to a lot of confusion surrounding the romance and plot. If there were more moments where Declan reflects on his feelings, his decisions would have made a lot more sense, and I would have enjoyed the story more.

2 ⭐️ Interesting fantasy world but predictable storyline, incredibly sexy moments but sometimes cringy

Trigger Warning (18+): abuse, grooming, molestation (mentioned), violence, death of character (side)

Summary:

"You're going to break me"

"No, Little One. I'm going to love you. Until you forget what it is to hurt and then long after that. Until the scars you wear like armor have faded from memory, and only we remain."

For nearly 400 years, the Veil has protected humans from the Fae of Alfheimr. Until one day, it shatters, unleashing fae upon the world again.

Estrella spent her entire life tending to Lord Byron's gardens in Mistfell during the day and receiving private lessons from him and his tutors at night. But once the barrier between the two realms is broken, Estrella's life is forever changed. Marked as a mate to one of the fae, she must flee to save herself from being hunted down by the Mist Guard, protectors of the human realm, as well as the Wild Hunt, a group of fae from the Shadow Court.

Before either can capture her, another fae marked named Caelum saves her, and together they seek protection with the Resistance. But their alliance quickly turns into a passionate romance that may consume them both.

*This story ends on a massive cliffhanger

My Thoughts:

If you're a fan of JLA's From Blood and Ash and enjoy dagger to the throat meetings, fated mates, forced proximity, 'touch her and die', 'who hurt you', possessive alphaholes, exhibitionism, praise k!nks, and breeding k!nk, you may like this.

What I liked:

The world-building. This is an interesting world full of Primordials, Gods, Fae, witches, and humans. By the end of book one, we have some background about the history before the Veil, but most of it is told from the human's perspective, so I'm curious to learn about it acording to the Fae. I'm also excited to see what life in the fae realm looks like!

The banter was great at times. Estrella is feisty and Caelum is very persistent. All he wants to do is protect her but she's very untrusting, so whenever he pushes, she pulls. But goodness does Caelum say a lot of great things. For example: "If this is what your hate feels like, then I can't wait to feel your love."

Caelum calling Estrella 'My Star' was so sweet. This is the cutest nickname, especially since Estrella means star in Spanish. But he also calls her, 'Little One' a lot which I didn't like so much because it reminded me of Marvel's Thanos calling Gamora 'Little One'. lol

The sex scenes were intense and steamy. Literally steamy because most of them happen in hot springs. This story is definitely 18+ with lots of sexual tension and graphic sex scenes.

What I didn't like:

Storyline is extremely predictable. There wasn't a single plot twist that surprised me. It felt like the author was spoon-feeding the reader to the point where it was obvious where the story was headed. I felt like I was being told more than I was being shown. However, it’s still an enjoyable ride.

Some of the words and phrases used were too modern or relative to our world. For example: 'ew', 'gross', and 'you're a d!ck'. Whenever used, I was taken out of the fantasy story.

Other words and phrases used throughout the story were cringy, especially sexual ones.

4 ⭐️ This story captured my heart

3 ⭐️ For all you Game of Thrones fans, just imagine the Dothraki but on an alien planet

Summary:

Luna is a human on a planet ruled by the Dakkar, the native species. In exchange for inhabiting their planet, they must follow certain rules: they cannot leave their designated areas, they cannot kill or eat meat, and they must never burn the ground. But due to depleted rations from the Federation, humans are getting desperate.

Luna's younger brother ends up breaking one of these rules and unfortunately, the Dakkar horde king shows up demanding retribution. To save her brother and the village from the wrath of the Dakkar, Luna offers herself to serve the horde king in exchange for their safety. The horde king accepts this trade and takes Luna back to his people. But what Lana doesn't know is that her life is about to be changed for the better.

My Thoughts:

This is an entertaining sci-fi romance with some interesting horde dynamics, violence, smut, and of course a HEA. I enjoyed the story but wasn't necessarily blown away. However, as far as alien romance goes, it's definitely worth a read.

This story gave me Khalessi and Khal Drogo (from Game of Thrones) vibes. Thankfully, there are no r4pe scenes like in GOT, but Luna's struggle to be accepted into the horde and learning to love Arokan (the horde king) was very similar to Khalessi's. I didn't mind these similarities but I was distracted half the time because I kept comparing the two.

Luna was fine. I didn't hate her but I didn't really connect with her either. She was so ungrateful and stubborn towards Arokan at first that it drove me insane. The horde king should have killed her brother for what he did, but he didn't. Luna expected to be the horde king's whore but, instead, she becomes his wife and queen. So no she's not repeated r4ped or forced to be a slave as she expected. Instead, she lives a life of luxury with delicious food, beautiful clothes, and hot water, yet she constantly complains about her situation and wants to go back to her shitty village with people who didn't care about her. Luna did not appreciate how fortunate she was, and it took her FOREVER to come to this realization. But eventually, it does happen, and from that point on she was fine. I did like how she overcame certain fears, learned how to take care of herself, and opened her heart to love.

Most of the conflicts could have been resolved between Arokan and Luna immediately if he would have just explained the Dakkar lifestyle to her instead of expecting her to fall in line and do what she's told. This mentality didn't make sense to me because Arokan liked Luna immediately because she was strong, brave, and stubborn, but the moment she acted that way that went against the Dakkar way, he would get mad at her. Like, dude, she doesn't know anything about the Dakkar, which was mentioned a million times. Teach her your ways so she understands.

I liked Arokan because he's a brute but also a cinnamon roll towards Luna, However, I wanted more from him. I think it would have been amazing if we got some chapters in his POV.

I'm not going to lie, the anatomy of the Dakkar threw me off a bit. They basically look like humans except they have six claw-like fingers and toes, yellow irises with no white in their eyes, slitted nostrils, and a TAIL. I just don't get how claw-like fingers could possibly work for sexy time, ya know? Like someone please tell me how that works. And then the tail....I just kept imagining a rat tail or something. I felt like it was an unnecessary addition.

The smut was good. Nothing crazy, but the sex scenes were enjoyable and relatively graphic. But I actually enjoyed the sexual tensions and foreplay stuff better.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and I'm curious enough about this world to read the next book. I've only seen good reviews for it, so fingers crossed.

4 ⭐️ I’m addicted. So f*cking good!!!

The beginning of this book was phenomenal!!! Lana vs the Boogeyman was the showdown I didn’t know I needed!!! And Hadley finding out created the perfect tension! Now I'm just waiting for Logan to discover the truth, which has me so nervous and anxious.

I love the way this story is progressing. It’s done slowly but because these books are short/fast-paced, you’re constantly on the edge of your seat! I’m seriously devouring this series and just can’t stop!

The story ends on a cliffhanger of sorts - with us on the verge of learning the full story of Marcus and Victoria Evans!!! Immediately reading book 4!

4.5 ⭐️ Holy sh*t, this story has me in a chokehold!

Kyle gets exactly what that sick f*ck deserves. Lana struggles with her sanity. Logan discovers the truth. And we finally learn the details about exactly what happened that fateful night to Marcus and Victoria as well as their father's execution. Absolutely horrifying and heart-wrenching!

I couldn’t put this story down and am off to finish the final book! I don’t know what’s in store for Logan and Lana but I just hope she gets her revenge and Logan understands.

4 ⭐️ Revenge is sweet

Seriously this series had me by the throat. I finished it all in one day. So damn addicting!!!

I love how Lana and Jake completely destroy the town. And Lana walking up the deserted street to the town hall while Down With The Sickness plays on speakers is just so f*cking badass! Amazing visual.

I was surprised but not totally shocked to learn the identity of the original serial killer who started it all. But I do wish he had a more painful death. His revenge wasn’t violent enough IMO.

Shoutout to ST Abby did an awesome job writing such a detailed thriller/mystery and keeping the facts straight. There are so many details to this story that could have easily been forgotten or brushed over, but that wasn't the case.

The ending was basically what I expected. Since this story is a romance so of course, it’s HEA. But this HEA is a lot different than your typical romance. Things work out between Logan and Lana, and being the supportive partner he is, Logan caters to her dark needs. I mean, what serial killer wouldn't find it romantic to be gifted an evil person to kill on the day of your wedding anniversary? It’s sick and twisted, yet somehow romantic all at the same time.

My only ‘complaint’ would be the believability that Logan actually is down with all the killing, and accepts Lana for who/what she is. But even then I don’t really care because I want them to live happily ever after, and they do. ❤️

The Mindf*ck series was an absolute mindf*ck and you definitely should check it out! I was hooked from the start and couldn't stop! I can tell I’m about to suffer a massive book hangover.

4.5 ⭐️ This story is definitely worth the hype!

Trigger Warnings: murder, gore, serial killings, flashbacks of rape, PTSD

I decided to give this a go because it’s been all over TikTok and yeah, I’m hooked!!! This story kept me at the edge of my seat and I’m immediately starting the second book because this left off on a cliffhanger!

First off, I love Lana. I like that she kills for revenge and that even though her backstory is vague, throughout the book we catch glimpses into her traumatic past. We also see that the men who hurt her and presumably killed her family were the real monster. I never thought I’d be on the side of a serial killer but here I am, rooting for Lana to murder every single one of those sick bastards.

Logan ❤️ what a man. He’s sexy, sophisticated, smart, perceptive, and sweet. I’m obsessed with how much he adores Lana.

Even though this is a darker romance, because of the themes, it still is fun with sweet moments. I love the juxtaposition between the brutality of Lana’s killings/Logan’s intense job and their budding romance.

I’m so curious to see how the heck the rest of this story is going to play out! Is Lana going to get caught??? How will Logan react when he finds out what she’s doing???

Should you read this story?? If you want to read about a woman serial killer who falls in love with a sexy FBI agent, then yes!!! It’s extremely entertaining. Plus, each book is short (novella sized) so it’s a quick read.

3 ⭐️ More plot, less romance, and way darker

Trigger warning: serial killing, gore, mentions of rape, pedophilia

I like the progression of the story but I just don’t like reading stories with pedophiles. It's a topic that really disturbed me. I was waiting for some romantic moments to lighten the mood but there weren’t many.

The pedophile subplot and introducing Lindy felt a little random. And the way the author described Lindy’s connection/past with Lana felt disjointed. Definitely could have been done in a better way that didn’t come across as a random plot point. *Now that I've finished the series I stand by this. I get why this was a necessary part of the story, but it could have been done in a much smoother way.

Also, the cliffhanger!!! This author knows how to keep you invested! I started the first book at 11pm Saturday night and it’s now 2am Sunday morning and I can’t stop. Onto book 3!
