I'll start by saying that when I started this book, I thought a lot of the issues discussed were economic, not gender, but Gates does a great job at explaining how lifting women really does lift everybody - she changed my thoughts on some of the issues and I can be pretty opinionated and closed minded.

While most of the book dealt with hard to deal with problems, it seemed at times that she tried too hard to explain and I feel became too wordy. It is the experiences that make the book so powerful, yet (in my opinion) sometimes she went overboard on her experiences that I didn't think applied as broadly as other things treated in the book.

Overall, I think this was an excellent book and I flew through it. I'd recommend it to everyone.

There are a lot of good strategies on this book. The biggest downfall is that it treats little kids like rational people, but then denies their ability to reason throughout. It's also the same 4ish ideas through the whole book.

That said, there are a lot of strategies that work with well helping little ones deal with their emotions. It helped me think a lot more of my kids as little people with needs that are often different than my own

I heard so much about this book back in college (positive and negative) so I figured I should check it out for myself.

There are a lot of good ideas presented here, but overall it didn't seem to go much beyond "be nice to others and they'll be nice and help you".

It was a lot of good ways to treat people, although most of the motivation seems to be trying to get people to do what you want them to do

This is basically a grown up version of the hunger games. It was good enough for me to read book 2, but just barely.

After really liking the first book I was excited for this one, but for some reason, it didn't grab me like the first.

Maybe it was because this one was based more on life and social sciences rather than physical, but I just didn't get into this one

7.5/10

I was intrigued by the title and was not disappointed. With many books on this genre, they tend to be scattered and get way into the weeds on topics not totally related to the main idea. This one stays focused and is very engaging. It's easy to read while being informative - not boring at all.

I won't say anything to ruin it, but this is a good read about a true story of a black cop going undercover and joining the KKK. The ironies throughout are fun to think about, and it's a nice piece of history

This book does a great job showing that girls are not inferior to boys, but rather different. There is possibly a lot of damage we're doing to our young girls that is done in ignorance or in the name of equality.

This book has a lot of social science, which is a term I hate. Science implies repeatable results, which is never the case 100% of the time with people. We can see trends that are happening as try to address those, but on am individual level some things may apply and others not. There is also a lot of physical science like anatomy that is presented in ways I have never thought of.

There is a lot of very good content in this book and I have no doubt that everyone (including me)can benefit from studying and applying the principles taught. Having said that, this book just didn't speak to me. I struggled to get through the pages and had to force myself to read and finish it.

Maybe at another point in my life this would be a 5 star book, but for now, it was difficult to finish.

I really liked how this one started. The first half was what you would think - prosthetics leading to bionics. I really liked the first half, but the second half was all neurology. Typically I enjoy neuroscience books, but this one didn't hold me at all. Had I not been listening to the audiobook I would have had a really hard time finishing.

I don't know why the neuro post didn't hold me. Maybe it is because I want expecting it from this. I was hoping to get more about exoskeletons, ocular implants, super hearing, maybe more senses - akin to how sharks can sense electric fields.

While better then the first, I didn't think this book was all that great. 2 books in I still don't care much about most of the characters, and the plot has moved along surprisingly little. I'll eventually finish the trilogy out of curiosity, but not as a priority.

Just ok
