The main plot of this book is pretty interesting, but it gets very repetitive at times during the book.
I hate comparing this to one of the all time best diction books, Dark Matter, but it's same author, so I'll dark matter was much better. This book didn't have the holding power that Dark Matter did.

I didn't know much of anything before reading this and I've come away with a great appreciation for Grant
The first half about his youth through the civil war was very good. The second half dragged on in many places. I didn't care much for his political struggles because I don't care for politics in general. Some people may love reading about the politics of his day.
I am a little concerned that the book goes too far with his praises simply because I didn't know much about him, and with how great he is portrayed here, you'd think the general populace would know more about him. Honestly, if everything is accurate, it was a huge slight to not include him on Mt Rushmore. And yes, he would be used to Mt Rushmore, I'm just saying that as a level of prestige

I really liked this book. Based off the title you might think it's about how to trim your budget so you have more money, but it was much more.
You may have heard the phrase "spending money you don't have to buy things you don't want to impress people you don't like" this book embodies this phrase. It pays out clearly and convincingly the idea that you shouldn't do things just because society says it's what you should do. This gets right to the happiness you can experience by not caring about other people's expectations and pursuing what will make you happy.
There is very little financial advice on the book - it's mostly lifestyle and I am very happy to have read it.
Also, if the author happens to read this review, I borrowed the book from the library.

I really enjoyed reading how Helen Keller experienced the world being both blind and deaf. She definitely has a different experience in life than most people, and many of her experiences were richer than someone relying on sight and hearing. An example: she talks about navigating alone on a rowboat by smell, based on different parts of the shore she knew.
It's a little disjoined at times, but definitely worth the read.

3 stars, minus 1 star for being fiction
Many parts of this book we're exciting and fun to read, while many others seemed to have no place and were never resolved. There is a ton of fuff, which I didn't find that interesting.
The overall plot is fun, but as far as this being fiction based on true events... Sorry, I don't think you are going to win over any but the most extreme of conspiracy theorists.
This attempts to combine, among others, alien technology, government cover-ups, Nazis, metaphysics, Fae creatures, international corporations of evil, area 51, escaped Jews, the cold war and time travel. The result, while fun to read most of the time, is too ludicrous to be taken seriously in the least

This is my 3rd Apollo 8 book this year and I enjoyed it just like the others. There are little tidbits of info unique to this book, just like the others.
I had a great time with this book, but my favorite Apollo 8 book is Rocket Men

I was very excited to read this and really want to believe the topics discussed, but it's too far fetched for me. I have a hard time believing that trees act as individuals - mothers fathers, children, friends, hermits, etc.
Even the parts that weren't prompting this theory and we're purely "scientific" didn't grab me. I usually like dry facts and figures, but for some reason this book just didn't do it for me

The author does his best to boil down 70,000 years of history into 1 book. There were a lot of very interesting parts, but due to the size of the task, there are many times where the author presents his preferred theory as fact when there are just as many other theories that could be correct. Many times he simply dismisses theories without providing a good reason why or another theory (in my mind the biggest offender was why most societies are patriarchal).
There will be parts in this book to challenge anyone's beliefs, but I think that's a good thing. The author is very brazen presenting his view as fact and uses the strongest wording possible to elicit an emotional response.
My favorite part was the part about myths (or fictions, or intangibles are better words I feel) and how they have affected everyone in ways you probably never thought of.

6/10 but minus one star for being fiction
This was a fun book taking me into an unknown and un-thought-of world. In the end it was a bit too much like Jurassic Park, which isn't a bad thing, just lacking originality.
It was an entertaining read, but not anything that will stick with me

While I feel sympathy for the author's struggles, I had a hard time getting through this book.
To me or seemed disjointed - constantly bouncing around between different times and places so that I lost track of the details of any one event. Many parts of the book didn't seem to add anything to the overall narrative.
In my opinion this would have been much better been 100 and 150 pages.
Having said that, I appreciated that the author was willing to share his personal story through a very difficult time. It helped me understand a world I didn't know a little bit better.
