I thought this was a very interesting idea, but I just had a really hard time staying engaged. I wouldn't have been able to finish if it hadn't been an audiobook.
I would have given only one star, but the final chapter or two about experience being more important that simply knowledge really got me. We can know all we have learned about the cosmos and universe, but have we really gained anything as most people can't even see any stars at night? At what point is experiencing something more important that knowing about something?

This is about a very difficult experience in WW2. I like that the author seemed to have interviewed many of the people involved. I ended up spacing out often and missing parts, but if you're into WW2 survival stories, you'll really like this.

I debated 4 or 5 stars. Ultimately i decided on 4 because the basic premise of the book is pretty out there on the fringe of what's generally accepted.
Overall this isn't a book about oumeamea. This is about life outside of earth in general, what would happen if we discovered it and what we should be doing to find it. It's a book about exploring the stars and the explorers spirit.
The author brings up a lot of good points about how we and hindering science by rewarding conservatism and discouraging hypothesis that challenge the norm. I'm very conflicted on this subject giving those book only 4 stars.
Overall, i guess i don't know how I feel, but the book was great!

I would give this 0 stars if possible. This is the worst book I've ever read.
I've read plenty of books with dark and difficult themes, I've read books about bad things happening to people (this is number 477 going onto my read shelf). I wasnt shocked by the content, but the fact that it was all just for entertainment. Any other dark book like this that I've read always had something that redeemed it, but I'm a worse person for having read this. I found no redeeming value here. This was simply exploiting terrible acts for entertainment. It felt like I was back in the Roman colosseum screaming for blood.
I can't fully express how i felt about this, so i guess one star for being able to write a coherent novel - that's something i surely couldn't do.
I would never recommend this book to anyone for any reason

It seemed well researched and written, but just didn't engage me that much. It is interesting history.

I really enjoyed this. Her enthusiasm is evident throughout the entire book.
I don't know how much appeal this would have for people not interested in spaceflight. There are long parts devoted to things like what kind of bolts were selected for Hubble and EVAs in general, and designing toe holds for working on an EVA.
My favorite part was how much respect she commanded back in a time when women didn't typically get much respect

I couldn't decide between 1 or 2 stars.
This is a very carnal look at how men think. This is accurate on the basest of levels. Many things are pretty demeaning to women despite acting like he's looking out for women (things like women are in charge of keeping the house clean, the main job of a woman is to service her husband's needs).
Did not enjoy this at all, although i could see some situations where this book could be beneficial.

I'm pretty conflicted on this one.
The first 75% of the book was really good and helped me learn about different marginalized groups. It was a great education for anybody
The last 25% or so I didn't think was very good.
GRAPHIC CONTENT
Sometime around 9th grade he was sexually assaulted by his cousin. The book goes into graphic detail what happened. The big problem I had is that this is a book trying to help other people who are in similar circumstances as the author, but he made it sound like it was totally ok that this happened. Its pretty much a full chapter on the details and how it was his sex education, but then spends about 3 sentences saying that he had trauma from it and that the situation wasn't ok. I'm not a fan at all of normalizing abuse - especially in a book to help others through hard times.
After the abuse section, he talks about his experiences in college. He again goes into graphic detail, this time about his first consensual sexual encounters. He talks about it saying he is trying to educate other people who don't get applicable sex education in school, so there could be some value here, but for the most part it seemed like it was being graphic just for the sake of being graphic.
I really wanted to like this, and I did like a lot of it, but the things I mentioned ruined it for me. I hate to say but I wouldn't recommend this book to others as there are other books that teach the same things without the drawbacks.

I really like the ideas presented in this book. I really like that the author continued to pursue her research even though it made many people upset and was not well received.
I had a hard time with the book itself. At times it seemed like a research paper. I ended up skipping over sections where she talks about research methods and such.
I would have preferred to have this book dumbed down a bit to be more readable (something I've never said before). I loved learning about how trees and forests are all interconnected.
I'm conflicted with my review and rating because the content was great, but i had a hard time finishing the book.

I really liked this.
I thought paleontology had things mostly figured out, but it was really exciting to learn how fast the field is moving and what is being discovered thanks to new technologies.
If you're a dinosaur fan, you'll love this
