No Hard Feelings is an emotional debut with a main character that is so loveable and relatable I felt the immediate need to give her a hug (and also my younger self). A special mention to the audiobook narrator, who gave such a vivid voice to Penny that at times it made me shiver.
I initially worried that I wouldn’t be able to relate to Penny, but as the story grew and Penny showed herself and her anxieties in the pages (headphones?) I felt that my own anxiety and experiences were very seen. I loved the exploration of adult friendships, and their changing dynamics as we grow older. I also loved that Genevieve touches on how important these friendships become to us, that they become family and how much it stings when change happens (purposeful or otherwise).
I did find the pacing to be a bit off sometimes, however which occasionally pulled me out of the story a bit.
Penny needs a hug.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters in DoTDE, it was fascinating and the world is intriguing. I really enjoyed Lyr and Rhyan as characters, even if I did find Lyr a little irritating at times. I loved that the seat of power passes to women, and i loved the dynamics between the characters.
I found that we got big information dumps occasionally, which really took me out of the story and I would have liked it more if the world building was a bit more seamless. I also felt like, while the family relationship was a big part of the story, that we didn’t actually spend much time with Lyr’s family (especially her dad). I also felt like the story was building to a big reveal, with very fun Easter eggs and foreshadowing throughout, and then it kind of just… ended? Which was a bit of a let down.
Overall, a very fun read and I will be reading book 2!

“History is only boring to those who do not wish to understand its value.”
Burn The Sky is a gripping novel set on a post-apocalyptic alien planet that follows Jayne as she is thrust into a fight she didn’t ask to be in. Action packed and fast paced, it has you turning the pages to find out what’s going to happen next.
The world building in this was mind blowing, the planet Worth that Amanda and Lee have created is astoundingly fascinating and intelligent.
Jayne navigates this precarious world and seeks comfort in the relationships she finds, in a place where it is hard to have any kind of relationship. The antagonist, or villain, of the story is truly despicable, and he left me truly angry several times throughout the story. We have big “Black Widow” & "Interstellar" vibes in Burn The Sky, which I absolutely adored. It is smart, twisty and brilliantly angsty.
Jayne is an extremely brave, and fierce protagonist who fights for what she loves, and as she discovers that the world around isn’t as black and white as she once thought, she begins fights for what is right too.
I laughed, I cried, I threw the book in anger. Burn The Sky is brilliant, and with an open ending that invites more to the story I can’t wait to see Jayne’s next adventure.

One of the few things where I actually enjoy the tv/movie better than the book. I love Jamie & Claire still, and Bree and Roger but I struggled with certain elements of this book, particularly the description of Mr Willoughby.

This was a dark, political fantasy that reminded of Game of Thrones in the way that none of the characters are particularly likeable, everyone is vying for power and a higher station.
The characters are all extremely compelling, with multifaceted personalities that have you turning that page to find out what happens next. The dynamic between the characters is so compelling, there are so many layers to their relationships with one another.
Jude knows what she is, she knows the decisions she makes will leave a monstrous tang in her mouth and yet she craves control over her life. The best way to do this, in her mind, is to seek power in Faerie. As she is mortal, this is easier said than done however…
Cardan. I loathed him and his friends in the beginning, but as we get closer and start to discover his motives he becomes a very interesting player in this chess game.
I can’t wait to see how Jude and Cardan’s rocky alliance is shaken in book two!
