theclockworkbook's Reviews (379)
Haven't done a review in a while but I will do one for this book. A lot of people might dislike it bc it stars a brat, selfish pop star that only cares about himself. But on the other hand, he's a lonely kid who's parents don't give a damn about him, who's sick of everyone wanting something from him, who's sick of not having privacy and not having a say in what he wants to do. He has managers and assistants who plan his life and his every action. But then, his assistants wanted him to get a normal girlfriend to show that Oakley Ford can be normal and can have a sweet and wholesome relationship that will get the media to talk about him. Vaughn and Oakley signed a contract to a fake relationship. Vaughn was forced to take the job bc both her parents died a few years ago and she has 2 younger twin siblings and a big sister who works really hard to keep the family together, plus the job pays a fortune that can help her with covering family bills and paying for her brothers' college and giving a hand to her sister. Their love was fake, and they pretty much despised each other but little did they know that they will fall in love. Vaughn changed Oakley, and with her by his side he was able to face his insecurities about his music and himself, and she was able to show him that she wanted only him and she didn't want anything in return. She encouraged him to pull him mask and show his real self to the world and to the people he loves. Oakley only wants to be normal; and he can be normal with Vaughn. It may sound complicated but I gave this book 5 stars bc the writer was able to show the characters' weaknesses and strengths; she showed that everybody is imperfect and has flaws; she was able to show the dark side and the good side of both characters. And it felt real. Most contemporaries I read show characters that are sweet and selfless and have the best out of life. This book was different; it made me laugh, smile, cry(happy tears) and Vaughn and Oakley's relationship is SUPER CUTE OK. Plus, "When it's real" was the name of a song that Oakley wrote and sang to Vaughn at the end of the book that made my heart melt❤️

"It only takes 180 seconds."
I am seriously and completely overwhelmed by this beautiful book. The main character Allison, is a strong girl who's been in foster-care all her life but then she was adopted by single dad Simon. Allison tries to get over her past with the help of her vibrant and really strong best friend Steffi who was also in foster-care all her life and who shared a really strong and unbreakable bond with Allison. Then here comes Esben, he is a social-media star that has captured the heart of every person. Esben is not the kind of asshole and self-centered social-media celebrity; he works on spreading positivity and discovering the good in people and that there are helping and reliable people and goodness in this world. He works on projects that help humanity like saving and adopting unwanted dogs, helping strangers to express themselves and overcome their fears and lots of amazing stuff that you'll see throughout this book. One of his projects is the 180 seconds social experiments that gets people to make eye contact with strangers for 180 seconds. In this experiment, the stranger is Allison; and after the end of this experiment, something happens. From then, the relationship between Esben and Allison grows into a healthy, positive, caring and amazing love relationship. It is a mature and not-annoying relationship. The book is not all about romance of course; if focuses high on amazing friendship, family, expressing yourself and finding yourself in this world. Throughout the book, you see how Allison was able to break away from her past alongside Esben, her father Simon, and best friend Steff. It is rare when I like all the characters in a book but in this one, I LOVD them all NO EXCEPTION. They we all good and supportive and mature. But be sure to prepare yourself for lots of crying because this book will break your heart with the emotions it will give you and the way it deals with traumas and obstacles and letting go. NO WORDS can really describe the awesomeness of this book and how it made me feel. I'm sure I will never forget about this book for a while. It made me laugh so hard, cry (even sob), and admire the message that this writer is trying to send. This book sends a really great message. Read it and you'll understand....
