Asimov ily but where’s the women?!

So freakin good, and almost even better the second time. I can’t wait to start the third

A very satisfying and excellent conclusion to one of my favorite fantasy series of the last few years! Based off how much I loved the first two books, I had such high expectations for this one. And they were pretty much all met. After the explosive ending to The Kingdom of Copper, I really had no idea what was going to happen in this book and how SA Chakraborty was going to resolve the conflict and stick the ending. But she did!!

The City of Brass follows more conventional fantasy tropes and elements while still giving a fresh new story and setting.

The Kingdom of Copper has more political drama that builds up to the explosive ending.

The Empire of Gold combines the best of the first two books to give us almost 800 pages of traveling, politics, mystery, battles and a well resolved ending.

I really appreciate how Chakraborty expanded on the world and mythos of these books, developed the characters while still managing to fit in small, domestic soft moments. I also got the best ‘friends to best friends to lovers’ romance I could ever ask for. There was a lot of pain and extraordinary difficulties the characters go through (the heart scene, the ocean scene, the entire last quarter of the book

4 stars for being an absolutely wild ride of a book

3/5 stars
I read this really quick, but partly because it was highly entertaining and easy to read. I knew that this first book was the weakest and people's least favorite, and I can see why. Love-triangle, insta-love, clueless princess... all stuff that made me roll my eyes and question whether I wanted to continue on. Luckily the second half was much better than the first, and I've heard that the second and third books are much better so I plan to continue reading this series.

This is probably in my top 5 favorite books of all time
