“the Plantagenets has forged England in their own image. They had changed a lightly governed, brittle, and easily fractured realm into one of the most powerful and sophisticated of the age, and what is more, they had stamped their mark forever on the English imagination.”
From shipwrecks to the crusades, evil Kings and good ones, wars and piety, this book did not disappoint. I did not know much of English history during this time but after reading this I definitely know a lot more! It was written in an easy to understand style, but still retained detail and importance. Dan Jones does not disappoint and I believe that this book is a good start to Medieval English history.

Could not finish. The story was so slow and boring and almost all the characters were dislikable. I’m not going to force myself to finish a book I’m not enjoying. This is my first Fitzgerald book and I hope his others are better. There was about 50 pages I actually read and liked, other than that I had the attention span of a flea while tying to read this
I honestly have no idea how this won the Pulitzer Prize. It was so boring I could barely read a paragraph without getting distracted. The author would ask an important question at the end of a paragraph and I would think “wow we’re actually getting somewhere relevant to the topic of this book”....nope, the next paragraph would start on a completely different topic without answering the aforementioned question. I would become distracted soon and forget whatever I was reading. I only got about 100 pages in before I had to put this away.
This was so good! I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy. I have a few long plane rides coming up so I will have plenty of time to read 😉
This was so good I can’t wait to see how the rest of the series plays out
