Bull Rush by Maggie Rawdon

4.0

Maggie Rawdon's Bull Rush is a standalone set in the world of her popular Queen City Series. While it can be enjoyed independently, readers familiar with the series, particularly Mine to Gain, will appreciate the added depth and context given to Ramsey's character.

This dark western romance focuses on Ramsey, a man haunted by his past. His story is filled with twists and turns, keeping readers engaged from beginning to end. The divorce-of-convenience trope, a new experience for me, was executed brilliantly and added a unique dynamic to the story. It also focuses on Hazel who is the a bold, strong, and independent ex-wife of Ramsey.

Ramsey and Hazel are well-developed and I enjoyed their growth throughout the story. The plot is filled with twists and turns, that had me captivated and engaged in the story. Hazel and Ramsey had great banter as well as emotionally heartwarming moments. These two had a deep connection and trust in one another that really made them perfect for each other. Their love story had so many layers and I loved how each layer got peeled back and the reader go a peak into the push and pull of their love story.

If you enjoy dark western romances, hate-to-love relationships, small-town settings, and second-chance love, Bull Rush is a must-read. Maggie Rawdon's storytelling skills shine in this book. I can't wait for more!

I am so lucky to have received this book as an ARC. Thank you Maggie Rawdon and Wordsmith Publicity for the ARC. I voluntarily read it and gave an honest review.

S.J. Sylvis' Playing the Game follows Scottie, a determined stripper struggling to make ends meet, and Emory, a talented NHL goalie with a reputation. Their paths collide when Scottie attempts to blackmail Emory for money, leading to a surprising twist: a marriage of convenience. Emory hopes that this marriage will help clean up his image in the media and Scottie is hoping to make some money to pay off her debt.

The marriage of convenience troupe is perfectly executed in this book. Emory, the perfect book boyfriend, stole my heart with his kind gestures and unwavering support for Scottie. He is the perfect example of the saying "If he wanted to he would."

Scottie, the fiercely independent female lead has a relatable vulnerability and strength that make her a character to admire. As her past is revealed, it deepened my understanding of who she is and what her motivations are.

The chemistry between Scottie and Emory is undeniable and radiates off the pages. The witty banter adds a layer of fun and laughter to the story.

If you're looking for a swoon-worthy romance with well-developed characters and an engaging storyline, Playing the Game is a must-read. I eagerly await the next installment in this series.

Fast & Reckless by Amanda Weaver

3.5

Formula 1 racing meets forbidden romance in this fast-paced novel by Amanda Weaver. The author skillfully weaves together high-stakes racing, intense passion, and a captivating redemption arc.

At the heart of the story is Will Hawley, a charismatic yet troubled Formula 1 driver with a history of scandalous behavior. His encounter with Miranda (Mira) Wentworth, the daughter of his team's leader, sparks an unexpected and forbidden romance. As their relationship intensifies, the pressure from the public and the team threatens to tear them apart.

Will's redemption arc is particularly compelling, as he grapples with his past mistakes and strives to become a better man. Mira is a strong and independent character who adds to the story.

The author's vivid descriptions of the Formula 1 racing scenes bring the sport to life, immersing readers in the excitement and intensity of the races. The fast-paced narrative keeps the reader engaged and eager to see how the story will unfold.

While the instant love between Will and Mira felt a bit rushed, I did feel their push and pull and felt their connection.

The third-person narration might have benefited from a dual POV in the first person. This would have provided a deeper insight into the thoughts and feelings of both Will and Mira, making their connection more relatable.

The audiobook narration by Samantha Summers and Zac Smith is commendable. Their performances effectively capture the characters' personalities and emotions, bringing them to life. I did have to listen at a little slower speed (1.75x) than I usually do (2x). None of this is a deal breaker and still a good listen.

Overall, this novel is a thrilling and entertaining read that will appeal to fans of formula 1 racing or sports romance fans.

One Happy Summer by Becky Monson

**Audiobook Review**

One Happy Summer is the sixth installment in the Falling For Summer series, offering a standalone romance with a touch of island charm. This lighthearted story follows Presley James, a famous actress  hiding from the spotlight, and Briggs Dalton, a local bookstore clerk rebuilding his life.

Presley's viral meltdown sends her to Sunset Harbor, where she unexpectedly crosses paths with Briggs. An unlikely friendship blossoms as Briggs helps Presley experience the carefree summer she's always missed. Their connection is sweet and heartwarming, though perhaps lacking the depth found in other books in the series.

The dual narration by Abigail Reno and Ryan Stone adds to the listening experience, bringing the characters to life with their distinct voices. While One Happy Summer may not be the strongest story in the series, it's still a delightful summer read (or listen) for those seeking a light and enjoyable romance.
Twisted Knight by K. Bromberg

4.0

K. Bromberg's latest novel has left me on the edge of my seat, demanding the next installment.

The story follows Holden, a man consumed by a childhood trauma that has fueled his desire for revenge against the Rothschild family. His path is filled with deception until he encounters Rowan, a woman who challenges his hardened exterior. Her family has made her feel insignificant, but underneath she is confident and has a mission of her own.

The chemistry between Holden and Rowan is evident, and their passionate encounters are both intense and satisfying. However, beneath the surface lies a complex mix of trust and mistrust, as Rowan struggles to open her heart to Holden.

The plot is well-crafted, with unexpected twists and turns that keep the reader engaged. The ending, however, is a cliffhanger that will leave you craving more. I can't wait to see how this story unfolds in the next book.

I enjoyed the narrators. This was my first audiobook with either narrator but both captured their characters personalities and were able to convey  the characters chemistry.

Truth or dare?

I dare you to read this book!

Dakota Wilde's Truth or Dare takes readers on a journey into the minds of two damaged individuals, Hazel and Ace. Their shared past at a troubled boarding school has left them scarred and seeking healing in their own unique ways.

Ace, driven by a relentless obsession with Hazel, has become a stalker, playing dangerous games of truth or dare to manipulate and control her. Despite the obvious danger, Hazel finds herself drawn into his twisted world, drawn in by a strange sense of camaraderie and a shared desire for revenge.

The dual timeline allows readers to piece together Hazel and Ace's traumatic past while witnessing the present-day consequences of their actions. The author skillfully explores themes of trauma, healing, and the complexities of toxic relationships even within a family.

However, it's important to note that Truth or Dare is a dark romance novel. The book contains explicit content, including stalking and violence. Readers should be aware of these trigger warnings before diving in.

Despite its graphic nature, this book is a compelling exploration of the human psyche. Hazel and Ace are flawed characters, but their struggles are undeniably relatable. The author's ability to delve into the depths of their pain and vulnerability makes for an emotionally intense reading experience.

This was my first encounter with L.J. Shen's writing, and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of emotions and well-developed characters.

The story centers around Calla Litvin (Cal), a relatable FMC struggling with PTSD and some other mental health issues, and Ambrose (Row), a grumpy but swoon-worthy MMC. Their contrasting personalities create a dynamic and engaging narrative, filled with witty banter and playful teasing. One of the highlights of the book is the incredible chemistry between Cal and Row. Their interactions are filled with humor, understanding, and a deep connection.

The narration by Teddy Hamilton and Lila Winters is a significant asset to the audiobook. Their performances bring the characters and their emotions to life, making for a very enjoyable listening experience.

5.0

Elizabeth O'Roark's The Summer I First Saw You is a heartwarming addition to her popular The Summer Series. This fifth installment follows Daisy and Harrison as they navigate forbidden love.

Daisy and Harrison, seemingly opposites in every way, find themselves drawn to each other in a captivating and unexpected manner. Despite their differences, their connection is undeniable and raw. O'Roark skillfully portrays the complexities of their relationship, exploring the challenges and joys of a forbidden love that must be kept secret.

One of the things I really enjoy in this book is its dual POV, allowing readers into the minds of both Daisy and Harrison. This perspective provides a deeper understanding of their conflicting emotions and the internal struggles they face. Daisy's bold and free spirit is balanced by her vulnerability, making her a relatable and endearing character. The banter between her and Harrison adds a delightful touch to their interactions.

If you're a fan of age-gap romances, forbidden love stories, or grumpy sunshine pairings, The Summer I First Saw You is a must-read. O'Roark's ability to create compelling characters and captivating narratives shines through in this latest installment of her series.

Ruthless by Hannah Gray is more than just a romance. It takes you on a journey through trauma, healing, and the complexities of love. Briar, who had a traumatic past, defies expectations with her unwavering positivity and kindness. Her strength and resilience are inspiring, making her a truly relatable and admirable female lead.
