very well-researched and informative book about a very interesting, less-discussed topic! as a queer reader i really enjoyed the personal anecdotes and stories that the author included as well as the interviews with (mostly queer) scientists. very relatable and inspiring in that sense. i like how the book was organised with each animal, group of similar animals, or phenomenon being diuscussed having its own chapter. i loved learning from this book and i love sharing all of my new "gay" animal knowledge with my friends! also, the illustrations are absolutely precious! the punk-looking duck is my favorite thing maybe ever.

i read this book for a college english class and really liked it! there’s lots of relatable, thought-provoking quotes and parallels to real-life issues that make you think and reflect on what’s going on around you. and it goes without saying, but butler’s writing is phenomenal <3

this book absolutely lived up to all the hype it gets. it has some of the most gorgeous writing i've ever read (i can't even stress that point enough, it's just so masterfully crafted) and in general is a beautiful story. jumps right into things from the beginning which took me a minute to get used to but it's so satisfying to learn more and more about the world and characters as you read. it unfolds so perfectly, but not completely-- you're left with the perfect amount of mystery. i'll definitely have this one on my mind for some time. please read this!!

once again i have read a book for my college english class and ended up enjoying it way more than i thought i would! i literally devoured this thing in a few hours-- mainly because i had a deadline, but that's besides the point. the story was super captivating and it was interesting to see just how many parallels can be made from the technology of this book to real-life things. a bit scary and existential at times, but you gotta love that!
