I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It's very short but well written. It gave me a sense of unease that I feel was intended and I found myself encouraging a friend to read it so I had someone to discuss it with. This book felt like an experience. The subtext and blank spaces the author leaves in the narrative gives clues to the characters and their personalities as much as the text on the pages.

I can honestly say I didn't think much of this story. There was no real opportunity to get to know the characters. It really takes the whole (very short) book to get subtle context as to the main character, Frances. I admit I'm not entirely sure what the intended plot was. The idea that this was meant to be a ghost story is completely lost on me.

I genuinely fell in love with this book. I couldn't put it down. A somewhat short read, but really packed a punch. It was somewhat unsettling the whole way through. When I started this book I had assumed there would be a sort of "who-dun-it" element to the story, but that was not the case. I enjoyed it more because of that fact. There was no great mystery to the story. Instead, we are seeing the world through the eyes of the main character, which seems dark and twisted but it's hard to tell if that's the world, or simply how she sees it. Dark and unsettling and I enjoyed every word.
