mysterious
medium-paced
20 Years Later is like Charlie Donlea is straight-up a magician. By the time you’re about halfway through, there are so many questions and moving pieces that you don’t even realize what’s being solved. There’s a lot going on, and some parts dragged or felt unnecessary, so I can’t give it a full five stars.
But when the story really hits, it hits. The plot of the book stands out and kept me hooked. It earns a solid four stars from me.
slow-paced
The plot and magic system in House of Blight were great, but the pacing was way too slow for me. The last 50–60 pages finally delivered, but it was a long wait to get there. I liked the FMC—she was strong but still vulnerable—and the two MMCs kept things interesting even if one felt “off” fake interest and the other was gruff but genuine. I’ll keep going with book two, because of the ending and I do like the characters, but this one landed middle of the road.
dark
emotional
Dark vibes with a twist that had me gagged. The pacing held strong until the end, where everything suddenly sped up it needed more space to land.
I loved the writing and the retelling angle, but I wish we got more from Rosalie to build interest in her POV for book two.
I’m really invested in Ella, so I’m a little bummed she’s likely last. Still, the tension and atmosphere? So good.
