Dark Lies by Veronica Douglas
4.0
Best book of the series so far.
The whole prophecy storyline is intriguing and it makes sense that Savannah was the one who would fulfil it even if she didn’t do it intentionally.
Interesting to see what becomes of them all in the last book. I really want to see what Jaxsons dad will do when he finds out about Savy. I want to know what happened between the families after they defeated Dragan the first time and how it lead the Savannahs family killing Stephanie (or did they and Jaxsons dad is just blaming them?). I want to see what happens to Bentham prison now it is basically destroyed. Will the witch get her unbreakable gravestone? Because Savannah has yet to deliver her side of the deal and the ghost said she will haunt her and she still can because Savy is still missing part of her soul.
I’m interested to see how this will play out and how she will get that part of her soul back to try and stop the Dark God. Hopefully the Moon Goddess will help as she loves her children or Savy can put him back into an endless sleep.
Now for my MAJOR issue with this whole entire damn series! I HATE HATE HATE how much Savannah is fighting Jaxson. I get she is 2 separate souls in one body but her wolf clearly wants to submit/be with her alpha/mate but she is always pushing it and clearly doesn’t trust her wolf to be a god damn wolf. I feel Jaxsons frustration with her. We’re onto book 3 now and she has clearly accepted her wolf… she won’t allow her aunt to bind her wolf again and now has the wolf tattoo to say she has accepted who she is, she accepts her pack (but in other moments only refers to it as Jaxsons pack) but she still bitches and moans whenever Jaxson tries to bring her into pack life. She’s basically lost her family because of what has happened to her because of them but for some reason she doesn’t want to accept any help in the form of her new family In the wolves even though she’s told multiple times by multiple people she is family and has everyone behind her.
I don’t know if the author is making this choice for some major revelation (maybe she a stronger alpha than Jaxson and feels she should be alpha?) I don’t know but this whole wanting to be alone and not accept help or anything is making her come across as a moody prissy pissed off teenager who only wants to push against every single thing in life just to be difficult. Yeah she is a kickass female and she should bow down to people but she’s just coming across in the wrong way and I don’t feel like she has made ANY character development in this sense her only character development has been with she powers and her skills. I get people need time alone and this has only been placed over 3 weeks and she hasn’t had any alone time since this happened but why doesn’t she have time to herself when she runs alone and think things through. She’s had time and now I feel like she is pushing back and rebelling because it’s expected. I hope she grows in the next book.
Again I’ll finish the series but won’t re read it because of Savannah and her attitude and I can’t stand an MC that doesn’t have any personal growth over 3 whole books.

This book deserves more stars than it has!!
First of all the low reviews almost put me off this book because there were so many before I found the 4/5 star reviews. 99% of the low reviews seem to be people who cannot read between the lines or they haven’t actually taken in what the author has told them.
I understand why people say they are confused by the book but you need to actually read what the author is saying and build some of the background yourself. This style of writing doesn’t lay everything out In black and white. This isn’t the type of book you can skim read.
Common things mentioned in the low reviews:
1) How doesn’t Rune know she has moved to a town full of shifters?
Well this answer is simple and is explained in the book. She is a latent wolf, which means she has never shifted before, this means all of her werewolf senses that would be heightened have never emerged and she is for all intents and purposes 100% human. She confirms this by her flashbacks showing she has no wolf strength, she doesn’t heal as she still has sore ribs from her beatings etc. she has studied maps prior to escaping her Alpha/pack and she knows exactly where shifters and their packs are and she is trying to avoid them at all costs so that she won’t be sent back to the pack for punishment. Because this town has never showed up on maps she didn’t automatically know this was a shifter town. Wolves CANNOT just out themselves to humans so she couldn’t exactly walk up to someone and ask them if they are a wolf. The same why they won’t just outright ask her if she is one even if they question it. Clearly they have a suspicion and I doubt her scent has been released making it easy for them to tell. She’s never been around humans it seems which is why she asks the question of do all males try and have dominance over others both human and wolves? She won’t know if humans act in the same ways as dominant wolves.
2) if she is running away why does she have nice clothes?
Simple - She doesn’t. She stated she ran away with little clothing and these items were clearly maid clothing (black skirt, white blouse and black blouse and black heeled pumps). She said that she bought the yellow sundress when she saw it in the window because she would never have been allowed to wear that before because of her mate. She bought cheap clothing items she saw mainly in rebellion that she was never allowed to wear that kind of outfit before she ran. She said she bought the blue dress in the new town because she has a date with Daxson.
3) she asks if there are packs living here and is told there are 2 so how doesn’t she know she is in a shifter town?
When she asks about the ‘packs’ she’s asking if there are packs of wild wolves living in the woods NOT asking about shifter packs. Because she has heard and saw several wolves she needed to know if they were wild or shifter wolves. When She’s told about them obviously the character said there were 2 packs and she meant shifters but as she thinks Rune is human she can tell her that as normal gathering of wolves is also called a pack.
4) why is she so shocked when people shift?
She is shocked because she thinks she has fallen into a town of shifters that will send her back to her Alpha/Mate for punishment as it could be one of her allies. The one thing she wants away from is shifters as she can’t shift and has no abilities she feels more human and knows she will be safer in a human population. It’s not that she is shocked that wolves exist, she is scared and haunted by her pack who clearly tortured her as wolves and she is distrusting of anyone wolf Or human it doesn’t matter. She just wants as far away from shifter life as possible.
Clearly Wilder and Daxson believe she is their true mate and fated to them. They think she is human and they don’t know she is a shifter as she has never shown them any reason to not believe she is human. They convince her she didn’t see a shifter in the woods and she believes it because she can’t heal herself (obviously some healed her as per Wilder explaining the 4 types of wolves) so she thinks she is seeing things because she is traumatised from her past and doesn’t want to accept she could have fallen into shifter territory. Because she sees Wilder shift at the blue moon run, they planned to sedate her before she could run. She admits there she is a shifter and isn’t a threat which is clearly a relief to them because they stated they wanted her to want to stay before explaining that she is mated to a wolf.
I don’t believe any of this is confusing, it’s just the writing style the author has chosen. We obviously don’t know who her father is, why her mother just ran odd when she was ‘outed’ or why she was outed. Clearly she has a healing ability so I’m guessing mother was a Lycan and her father is the type of wolf that Daxsons pack is (can’t remember the name of them right now), or she has some type of magic healing ability. Maybe she is a hybrid and that’s why they made her latent. I don’t know but I’m excited to find out.
The story could have been written a little bit clearer for those who like more simplistic writing but obviously the author wants you to use your Brain to fill in the gaps. It doesn’t deserve all the low star reviews. I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen next and I hope she continues to become more assertive and I can see how she has been beaten down to be submissive but I don’t think she really is that submissive.

I really liked this book. I’m loving the Kingdom of Wolves series with the writers and it’s helped me find new authors who I will continue to read long after this world and it’s characters are done.
Apparently some people don’t like that Blair is an assassin because she only does one assassin job in this book. It’s not like she can be an assassin for her pack when she is spending a month alongside the 3 other packs.
I love seeing the POV from Blair and all the boys and I was expecting to only see the POV of the boy whose pack she was staying in but we still see the Mason and Tai’s POV’s when she is with Vincent.
I’m interested to see if she can convince Mason and Tai to challenge their Alpha for the title and win and will be interesting to see if she only chooses one mate or all 3 to bring pease among the different wolves.
From what I can see the next book is also the last so this will be the first of the Kingdom of Wolves book series that has been finished and we don’t have to wait for the next book.
I actually really liked Vincent and Valentina because it goes to show that looks can be deceiving. Slightly confused when we find out who killed her family and turned her because I thought only bitten wolves could turn a human into a bitten but I could be wrong but that’s the impression I have from the other authors and their takes on the Kingdom of Wolves universe.

This was an ok book. Sometimes it felt like it was all over the place and some things just seemed to happen too quickly for my liking.
For example. They say mates are a fantasy made up by humans yet 4 males have all said immediately that Ivy is their mate. For something that ‘isn’t real’ they sure do know when they have met their mate. Ivy does the same thing she automatically knows these men are her mates so I would say it isn’t really a fantasy that humans made?
Ivy kind of annoys me, I think Cole would have let her go to see the social worker if she had asked and they would have posted wolves outside to keep her safe, everything she does seems to bring destruction to others.
I don’t get how Dante shooting Cole makes him Alpha now, he hasn’t exactly defeated him just shot and poisoned him. Cole didn’t submit and isn’t dead so how can Dante be the Alpha? Plus he can still use his mind link so he clearly is still an Alpha
I don’t get how Ivy is also an alpha and why Eli’s wolf submitted to her and calls her alpha that’s confused me. Maybe it’s something to do with her heritage.
Will be interesting to see why Silas’ dad paid for her to be adopted far away from Arbour Falls.
I’ll continue the story because I want to know why things have happened but the writing and the lack of character development have made this a difficult read. Hopefully we will see some better writing etc in book 2.

Again I wasn’t blown away with this book in the series.
It was written slightly better than the previous book but again I just felt like some things were rushed and some things felt a bit disjointed and we didn’t really get any information about any of the key issues in the series.
Things seem to be picking up now that Dante is no longer a threat. The book ends on a cliffhanger again but we already knew that would happen.
The series is ok and the storyline is great it just hasn’t been executed well.

Probably one of the better books in this series.
A lot more action but things still felt very rushed.
Not sure what ivy’s new powers of being able to see through their eyes will achieve (although I see why she uses these powers in the were house to find her mates).
I feel like the gods/goddess spin on this was a bit of a cop out. It says Ivy will need to choose between her two sides (wolf/goddess sides) if she survives. Hopefuly we will meet her mother in this one because it says her and Apollo are due to wake up soon.
Clearly that is Apollo at the end of the book. I don’t see why it is such a bad thing for Ivy to be alive? Apollo hasn’t said why he asked Trevor to kill her as a baby other than something about his fathers wrath.
The OQ isn’t over so clearly they will pop up again but I feel this next book will be more about the gods rather than the wolves.

Wolf Forever by Maya Nicole, Maya Nicole

Probably my favourite book in the series.
We finally got some answers but I still have questions that could have been answered maybe with an epilogue?
We never saw Ivy go to mount Olympus like Zeus told her too. I would have liked to have seen her relationship with her grandfather. Maybe that could be another story?
We never saw them discuss the possibility of children again after the negative test and Ivy said she would talk to Her mother about if contraception worked on goddesses but she didn’t do this.
We also didn’t see anything about Riley and her mates having their baby. There was lots of talk about it and they mentioned them going to visit when the new house was built so we could have seen a small bit in an epilogue showing them visiting.
I felt like the whole thing to do with Johnny and his mommy issues with Hera was a bit weird and that being the reason that this whole wolf thing started was a bit weird. We never saw any of the wolves who were captured being reintroduced to the pack and I was disappointed that Xander didn’t get to reunite with his pack mates or even one of them. I felt like one of them could have joined the Arbour Falls pack and he would get something out of all his problems. We never saw what happens to the captured OQ agents and what happened to them.
Because we much was left unsaid I felt like the author could have spent less time on the sex scenes and more on the story (usually I’m all for sex scenes but if if interferes with the story it makes me a bit pissed off) and we never got to see if Silas did any butt stuff with anyone which was sad because he talked about it so much during the book (even if it had been with any of the other guys and not Ivy)
3.5 stars just because I felt it was rushed and had the potential to be great. It was a different take on wolves because usually the moon goddess created the wolves but this time it was because of the goddess of nature instead.

Moon Touched by Elizabeth Briggs

I couldn’t put this book down! I was gripped from the beginning.
I love wolf shifter adult books and I enjoyed the added element of the zodiac signs for making packs. The Sun Witches were a different take on things as usually the wolves are tied to the moon goddess Selene but this time they have made it out that the moon gods are evil and the sun is good. A nice twist.
Unlike with other books where a mate bond is rejected and usually the wolf is free from the bond immediately (although it can kill them) this time when Jordan breaks the mate bond there are still strands of it there.
This small bond makes things interesting for Alya. It’s quite clear that Kaden knows she is his mate, and she feels the pull too but he is from a lost pack who everyone thought were still the stuff of legends and she feels for him strongly as well.
When she escapes the Leo packs slaughter at the Convergence she is then kidnapped by The Lost Pack (although I do not see it as kidnapping but you’ll see why).
This is definitely NOT YA fiction and I am living for it! Alya grows as a character throughout the book and it seems that she is throwing it all away at the end (at least Kaden thinks this) and we know this isn’t the case.
Can’t wait for the next book! I’m hoping for Kaden and Alya’s happy ending!

This is a completely different type of shifter/supernatural book than I am used to reading and I absolutely LOVED it! Usually I will read shifter books because they are based around packs and pack mentality but this series is started based around a military style training facility that employs shifters and supernatural creatures of all kinds to help protect others.
Avery is a mixed race supernatural being - human, witch and wolf and is significantly weaker than most supernaturals. Her abilities have been diluted due to her father being a sorcerer and they don’t pass down as much magic to female offspring, her mother is a half human/half wolf mix meaning Avery is only 1/4 wolf so she doesn’t have her own wolf and her magic is very weak. Basically she is not much more than a mere human but she wants to be an advisor who uses her words to de escalate situations that rise in the supernatural world but she has to do 3 months of training in order to get her dream job.
She arrives at her training facility only to find her old high school crush is actually her superior. Her and Wyatt both recognise each other and because of the duel POV we see things from both their points of view.
Both of them believed the other is too far out of their league, and this has been this way since high school. Wyatt is an Alpha and his wolf recognises Avery as his mate but Wyatt has to reign him in not to claim her because it goes against protocol to have a relationship with her. We see how he is torn by wanting the one thing he always has wanted but can’t have while he is at the facility.
He mentions owing someone to stay at the institution for another 2 years but this means he can’t claim Avery as his own. He has to reject her after they have a brief sexual encounter in the field and he realises he cannot be around her without breaking protocol.
A special comet that is coming over the Fae lands causes Avery to be hurt and she is rushed to the healing centre and no one seems to know what has happened to her but she is stuffing and Wyatt is given the job to protect her at all costs and find out what magic is now making her suffer.
I was hoping that this comet would bring out some more powers in Avery (maybe even get her wolf as the comet is meant to renew energy in the Fae lands) but it looks like it is something sinister. Hopefully her and Wyatt will be able to get closer again as they work together to figure out what has happened to her.
I would have liked something else with this book, I’m not sure what it is I am after but maybe something like his wolf’s POV or for her to have improved character wise. We see she is improving in her training but not enough to protect her in her new job. Something missing made this a 4.5/5 for me but you can’t give half stars on here.
Im exited for the next book because that’s one hell of a cliffhanger!
Wow I wasn’t sure the sequel could better the first book but I was wrong, this book was a great addition to the first.
The book picks up directly after book 1 ends. We see Avery and her struggles to come to terms with, and live with the harsh reality the comet has made her live. Her character development is great. She has shown that even though her sickness from the comet is affecting her magic/life forces, she still decides she wants to complete her training. Her training doesn’t go well as she loses every bit of her magic right before her last test, and drastically fails even though I was rooting for her to win. I was disappointed that the judges didn’t give her any leeway due to her circumstances. She was literally a human fighting supernatural beings at this point and she fought she hard at the end and I think she pass.
We learned that time in the Fae lands moves differently to time on earth. Wyatt spends 1 month there In Fae time which is 10 days In earth time trying to figure out a cure to stop Avery from dying.
Wyatt shows a great amount of growth and maturity after he returns from the Fae lands with no help. He explains his reasoning behind his rejection to Avery. She is mature enough to understand his reasons and accept his apology. She then decides she will help find more information about the comet and joins Wyatt in Bulgaria in the famous library that Nicolas works at to find answers before it is too late.
Avery’s life Force is draining fast but the gargoyle helpers have found scripts deciphering a prophecy made 2000 years ago in Fae land time. Avery meets her parents to say her goodbyes because she doesn’t think she will make it. During this the boys work out part of the prophecy. Avery gets even worse and they figure taking her back to the Fae lands will help her. She is basically unconscious at this point and things get worse during the celestial event that they are hoping will save her.
An even greater cliffhanger is at the end of this book and I can’t wait for book 3 because damn the author has made me so invested in the story I cannot wait to figure out how they will stop the prophecy and get Avery back to her old self. I can’t wait to see Wyatt and Nicolas working together (and possibly even her parents too because they are part of the prophecy).
This series has been very different and I am excited for book 3, I just hope it is as good as this one.
