This is a very solid prequel. I liked it a lot. I think what Collins does with Snow's origin story is pretty well done. The book felt slow in spots and there were a few loose ends she rushed through or didn't address. But overall I liked the book, the way she gives so many nods to the world we know, while also flipping it all on its head. Smart smart smart.

I really liked this book. It was super thought provoking. I think there were a few arguments (around sexual assault) that I wasn't wild about, but I do think the author did her best to handle them with care. I was really moved by some of the arguments she made around male friendship and boys need for tender emotion. I would have liked a more serious attempt at providing solutions or actions parents can take.

This is such a great little romance novella. I loved the characters and the story. The pacing was great. I really appreciated that the author didn't get super obscure in her sex writing (she uses the word normal people use to talk about sex). I like the trope of celeb normies and I liked the shortness of the book. Very cute. Very good.

This was so hit or miss for me. The takedowns are so so so good. Chu really knows how to trash a piece of art and artist. The newer pieces are fine, the title piece is weaker than the introduction. I got bored with some of the essays to the point of DNFing them. I also found myself wondering what it would be like to read a celebratory piece from Chu. I mean the woman can write, she is so funny and snarky and it comes through beautifully. The essays on trans identity and experience are also very very very good. Again, a real mixed bag for me.

I thought this book was a totally sweet work on historical fiction. It was very intro to civil rights movement and queer communities at the time. I do wish it had been a little more complex or nuanced in that area. I liked the premise and the characters and was happy I read it. Also, it reads so fast I flew through it.

What a wild story. I had no clue and loved learning about the art and the crimes. There were plenty of WTF moments and it was entertaining and fun. The author makes some choices with what information to reveal and when that I found curious, but given what he had to work with, I think he pulled it off for sure.

I enjoyed the chance to get to know Toni Morrison as an editor in this book. The format is a little rinse and repeat, instead of giving a narrative we get examples of the Morrison's process with a handful of her authors/books. There was never really a reflection point for what TM meant as an editor to the industry at large. There are some really good chapters where there is drama or unique insight. Williams does not paint TM with only a rosey brush, she shows some darker shades which I really appreciated. There is a full picture of her at work. Overall the book was a little redundant (it read as an academic text in ways with the repeated points made) but also interesting.

I went into this book with low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think the women wrote the book they wanted to write. I appreciated their ability to be actually (not faux) vulnerable, which I see with a lot of public figure memoirs. I also think they did a really impressive job of mixing self-help with memoir and erotica. Its something I had not seen done before. There were parts that felt redundant, there were parts that I didn't need, but overall I think the book was refreshing and inventive.

I have so many thoughts to unpack with this one. I get why people both love and hate it. The racial politics are dense and worthy of attention. I enjoyed the way we followed the narrator and the people he met. It was really long and dragged in parts for sure. I did the audio and Joe Morton is a legend and a supreme talent.

I loved this book as a child and read it a lot but this was my first reread as an adult. I enjoyed it and found the book to be as sweet and quirky as I remembered (though the ending felt totally new and unfamiliar). I really loved how Dahl utilized each bug and brought them to life. James is a sweet boy but a bit boring in retrospect, for me the bugs were the stars
