Such a fantastic book. Brutal storytelling, I can see how the triggers and messages have scared some people. It goes very in depth on the "why" of a teenage girl's suicide and many wanted a big SO DONT DO IT KIDS at the end. But it really addresses the witnesses and how to handle it instead.
Content, plot & characters 110%
Writing and organization 70% :( that's why it was 4 stars. Props to Asher for this amazing concept but the back and forth was awkward and especially the first 2 tapes are too distant for the reader to connect to right away. First half especially had awful descriptions of clays surroundings that were so cringey and amateur & very unnecessary.
Such a unique and important read. Someone at my high school killed herself last year and so the last tape really freaked me out. Like I said, so brutal and ugly what she went through.. but this is real shit that happens.

Intense. Devastating. Breathtaking. Heartbreaking. Phenomenal.

dorian is a lil noob.
Second time thru I felt team chaol so hard

Possibly my new favorite TMI. Absolute perfection. So much of the 4th book is just tension and tension and character conflict and I absolutely love it haha

It kept me reading it, which is my favorite quality to any book. The first 100 pages I was so cranky (reread: I like the beginning now) and I hated the book. All the fanfiction was cheesy and I didn't really understand it. I read through all the Simon Snow parts but it didn't make sense (reread: I actually followed some of it. Didn't even realize Baz was a vampire lol.) and it was completely unnecessary.

The main character was nothing like me (reread: CATH IS EXACTLY LIKE ME. Exactly how I feel around boys and books!) but I liked how she challenged my ideas. This book was painful to read (in a good way) and Cath gets pushed in all directions.

WREN. Cath has a twin sister and when they fight I CRY. Because it was so real! SO VERY REAL. the sister relationship was the best part and could have been the center of the book (not Simon snow!)

Nick was supposed to be "the bad guy" but I didn't get that part ????? He just needed help on his story so Cath helped him ????? (reread: wtf abby?! Nick wouldn't cite her on his story. Then when the prof made him and he begged her cath was like "idk guess it's your story after all" and im like DAMN.)

I didn't expect Levi (that much) and I read the second half in one sitting because he's so fun. I love the smile that Cath talks about I CAN SO PICTURE IT and he is quick and witty and I love that. (reread: I have fallen head over heels for Levi. It's not fair. What am I supposed to do with these feelings he's not even real.) I love how Cath is still like a kid in her head and then she goes to college and all of a sudden there's boys and Levi is like a grown up. So. Relatable. (reread: im in college now and I don't understand how she goes out with Levi every night and does her homework lmao)

The dad was painfully awkward and ok my family's cute/nice/unexciting so I never relate or understand to family drama in books BUT THAT'S OK.

I loved hearing about the whole college thing! This made me upset with how late I got on the Harry Potter train :'(

All the memories with wren were so accurate and they were perfect sisters and THE COMMENTS THEY MAKE DURING MOVIES. So flipping accurate. When they fight it was exactly like my life.

Btw rainbow rowell is totally her real name don't fight me on this
