It's about hope, amidst the complications of life. It's scary, but I suppose that's the appeal, because you question if you'd make the same choices as Lauren in the book as she did.

For all her complexity as a character, I love that she never lost her love for humanity despite humanity's capacity to do vile and cruelest crimes against others. That's the hardest thing to do. To still have hope in humanity.

I took a lot from this. Especially given the recent world in 2024, the book wasn't far off in some of the scenarios about the future.

If you're going to be serious with a straight guy, get him to read this book first.

Also teaches the general humanity some empathy for women. That women's issues are not just about women, men play their roles too, as bystanders, as complicit in their inaction, in thinking it's not their role.

This took me a while to finish because by the time I finished, I felt enraged by the last line. Goes to show the writing of this author as succinct and it cuts to the core.

The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel

Did not finish book. Stopped at 43%.
It's not for me.The structure of the book does not provide what I'm looking for in terms of sound personal finance advice. It's a series of stories that supposed to lead to roundabout idea about money, that is not really practical or immediately actionable.

Who it would be for perhaps: someone looking for mental priming about how to develop the right attitude to financial abundance, but not really looking to commit to the changes or do the slow and at times painful work of changing their money story anytime soon 🤷‍♀️

My takeaways
 - good parents understand that they're raising whole new lives that are not theirs to control when they have kids.
- also, adults mess up just as the same, it's heartbreaking when you become disillusioned about people who should have protected you when you were a child. But that's where the courage lies: to be willing to break your own heart and create some fresh narratives.
- no one's perfect. It's perfectly alright to grieve what you thought was perfect or romanticised.
- healing sucks, but it's better down the line years from now.

Book is good for anyone needing the courage to see the adults in their lives as that, humanely flawed, and you can choose to either keep them or leave them in the life you want to create going forward.

This book is for those genuinely interested in finding the answers to love and the mythical mysteries. However, reading through, takeways can be that you've always known the answers, it's just a matter of actually opening yourself up to processing the why's and the how's.
