Wheww! Where do I start? This book takes you on a roller coaster from the very beginning! First of all, this book kinda solidified my moral belief of “Trust No One”. If your sister would do those things to you.. who can you trust?! But I loved the fact that no matter what life threw her way Naomi figured it out, and was very optimistic. The immediate love she felt and kept for Waylay

This book was both so very moving and thought provoking. For me, it was a real eye opener as a black woman. I don’t know where I would be if I had to endure half of the things that the characters in this book did. With each page, and each situation Jesmyn Wards writing style captivated me and med me want to read more and more. The ending will blow you away. This book only made me want to dig so much deeper into the mind and books of Jesmyn Ward. I ask that if you do choose to read into this book, read the trigger warnings. Read this book if you need a book that will challenge your mind, and everything you thought you knew about slavery and inhumane times. I totally understand why this book is Oprah’s Bookclub pick of the year! Kudos to Jesmyn Ward! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING BOOK!

This book was okay. I really didn’t like the ending. Overall the story was okay, I was just disappointed towards the idle of the book.
