WOW!… BIG MF’in WOW! Where do I start? This book was EVERYTHING & more! To say the least. It mentions certain topics that I wish a lot more authors would highlight in their works. Some examples of topics mentioned in this book not to be taken lightly were
- American society dehumanizing black men
- Emasculating black men
- White supremacy
- Suicide + depression
Man, and then , the story— kept me smiling, kept me in my feels for real.. I was like wha… over and over again lol.
How two people can still feel genuine love for each other, be on each others minds— no matter how much time goes by and express it even though they’re miles away from each other… listen… please go read this book if you haven’t— I waited to long and I completely regretted it from the beginning. This is definitely a book I will not stop thinking about.. or talking about for that matter lol it is AMAZING! Highly recommend!

This book was to say the least flabbergasting. I was definitely warned this book would hit home if I was a parent, a mother especially. Boy, was that on point! I was also warned that this book would make me cry… (@caffeinatedandbookedup was waiting on the waterworks sooooo bad lol 😂) but nope. I mean it hit home, but no tears were generated lol. Definitely struck several nerves and heartstrings all at ounce! At first I was angry, because wtf… then I was like aweeee! I didn’t know where to put my hand.. to gasp over my mouth., or to swoon over my heart! Amazing amazing write style and plot. Fast paced and never got monochromatic. A page turner, that builds slow apprehension. This is the second CoHo book I read, and she definitely does not disappoint once again. I felt sorry for Kenna once I realized how compunctious she really was. I’m glad that Ledger realized that before it was too late! I love the letters Kenna would write to Scotty, they were so detailed and whole-souled. This story is not only a perfect example of how we’re all human and we all make mistakes, as well as everyone deserves a second chance because no one is perfect.
This story also shows how to grieve and deal with loss without having it to do it at others expense, and the true essence of being a mother and what it constitutes, really. There was definitely some unforeseen spice 🌶️ but it was in all the right places! The ending will leave you openmouthed and bewildered. I would definitely recommend you read Reminders of Him if you haven’t already!

📒Tour Stop 🛑 Book Review:
Notes on Her Color x Jennifer Neal (@chocolatejenn)
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

💭My Thoughts:
Notes on Her color was one of those books that really make you think. This Book took me on a range of emotions from hot to cold. I feel like the color changing in this book is a representation of the daily emotions that we feel as human beings. The fact that she inherited this characteristic from her mother means a lot too because that makes me think if that had anything to do with ancestors or genetics. The main character Gabrielle had to learn to adjust with the color, changing herself and it’s something that she never experienced before and that time she didn’t know how to hide it because she didn’t expect it. This book was very well written in an expressive way to where you can see all the words and your heart, at first it was a bit hard to understand, but as the story went by everything kind of connected with each other. There were even times where I feel like the mother didn’t understand why she changed the way she did when she did so it was hard for her to explain to her daughter. I really enjoyed reading this book especially because I took my time I could see myself re-reading the story pretty soon. Not many books make me feel like this. This, this was my first time reading any book by Jennifer Neal, and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store as an author. One of the things I also loved about this book was the artwork on the cover it matched perfectly with the storyline. If you haven’t read this book, you should definitely add it to your TBR. Let this be one of the books you read before the year is over!!

Special thank you to @catapult @chocolatejenn, @cocoachapters, and for allowing to be a part of this amazing book tour and my gifted copy.

Burning Season by @kikiswinson

Pub Date: 4/25/23

Synopsis:

Set your schemes . ..
A volunteer Virginia Beach firefighter, Alayna Curry faces death every day-and is proud to carry on her retired father's legacy. But with cash always tight and her long-time bovfriend Levi pressuring her to give up what she loves to make more money, she knows she needs more cash flow to stay afloat..

Set your traps .
All Alayna has to do is keep quiet about a scheme to burn down buildings for insurance-hungry "clients." And for a while she's on fire from the rush, making insane cash-and finding new passion in all the wrong places. But when the money suddenly stops rolling in
-and one "client" after another pushes back against the deal-Alayna and the rest of the crew stop watching out for each other and start fighting for their lives.

Set your life on fire . ..
Now with the cops turning up the heat and every firefighter for themselves, Alayna must walk an impossible line to get out from under. But between betrayal, secrets, and broken duty, will what loyalty she has left be the one thing that burns her life to the ground for good?

My thoughts:
Whewww! Alonzo. Wtf...Is all I can say... this book took me on the kind of rollercoaster ride that I didn't want to get off of! The character build up, the plot build up, the setting, the loyalties broken, the underhanded sh!t, the "who did it"...
... This book was
everything! Read this if you need a book that will bend your brain a lil bit a
Thank vou to @cocoachapters + @kikiswinson + @kensingtonbooks for my gifted copy of this a$$ book!

This book was so so good!!
Auntie Bev never ever disappoints and is the Queen of historical romance to say the least. I was immediately invested from page 1. Drake and  Valinda’s love is the kind of love you dream of. It’s so beautiful and full of passion. The only person who got on my last nerve in this book was Valinda’s father. He was a straight co*k blocker 🤬🤬🤬🤬. Just didn’t know how to be embrace and support his daughter’s happiness!! Other than that, I want to marry Drake!!! 🫣🫣🫣Valinda’s intended—Cole… he was another story nonetheless, he played a crucial part in this beautiful love story. I definitely feel a re-read of this series coming on!! Swipe to read the synopsis, and some of my favorite moments and quotes from the book. On to book 2!!🫶🏾
