I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh what a great story! I am definitely keen to see what happens in the next one.
I have read a lot of MM romances, and I really enjoyed watching the story between Will and Thomas play out. My heart always breaks for characters that have to hide their sexuality, and the time period for this one (1941-1943) meant that this was a given. I did love that they were still able to have stolen moments, but it was sad they still had to hide out in the open.
I found the two spicy scenes a little rushed, and wished they were longer. I am also used to reading books with a higher spice level, so was left wishing for more detail to hold me over for the rest of the story.
I also appreciated the research and attention to detail that went into this book. I was fascinated by the footnotes, and was able to learn a thing or two about what went on during WWII.
Although I do enjoy standalone books more, I am hooked to know what happens in the next instalment, and cannot wait to see what they get up to!

I struggled with this one. The writing style felt disjointed.
I am not a fan of instalove, and there were a couple of homophobic jokes that gave me the ick too.

This is my least favourite in the trilogy. I LOVE the story of Sweeney Todd, but this just didn't do it for me. I felt like Sever was a really one-dimensional character. I love a morally grey MMC who has a compelling backstory, but I felt like more could have been done to flesh his out.
Tallie's history was definitely tragic, but I also didn't really believe she would have been as into the shibari scenario as she was.
Overall, I found myself bored as I was reading it, but I also felt really lost along the way. A lot of stuff didn't make sense until much later in the book, and that frustrated me no end.
This one was a miss for me, which I am sad about given my love for the source content, and how much I enjoyed the two previous books.

This was cute, but dang the first time the two MCs have sex felt like the author had just compiled a list of what everyone froths on booktok and combined them:
-'There are no gods here, just your demon'
-ripped underwear (I'll buy you more)
-'look how well you're taking me'
-giant penis
There were a number of loose ends, or just unaddressed things raised:
-MMC says his demon senses will take over and hurt the FMC when he claims her, but then after claiming her just has a normal sexual encounter with her
-he has concerns that the demons in the demon realm will come after the FMC at the ball, but again, nothing really happens
-The MMC has a nightmare/recurring fears about blood/death but nothing eventuates and it's not clearly explained how this links in with his mother's death
Felt like these were supposed to bring drama to the story, that just never eventuated.
Cute concept, but the execution didn't reel me in.
