I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC.
This book wasn't what I was expecting. I thought I was walking into a sweet, MM Christmas romance, but there was significantly more depth and heartbreak in these pages. The deeper topics were covered well, and my heart went out to both Eli and Austin.
The writing was good, though the characters seemed to stutter a lot, and there was nothing to show this was an intentional character choice. It seemed to be in moments of high stress, or emotion, and I found that the more I noticed the stutter, the more it pulled me out of the moment. There were some other spelling and grammatical errors in the writing that also took me out of the moment.
My biggest irk was that I felt it ended with questions still to be answered. There was no epilogue to close out the story and I cannot see an indication that there will be a sequel. I feel like I was ripped from the book universe, instead of being gently led out at the end. I hope there will be a bonus scene or something released later to answer the questions that this book left me with, because I genuinely want to see their progress together.
